Med-Pharmacology and Chemical Biology - Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh - (23009397) The Cheng Zhang lab (https://www.czhanglab.org/) at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for a dedicated Research Scientist at Level IV or V, depending on qualifications. The potential candidate is expected to lead independent research projects using cryo-electron microscopy to solve high-resolution structures of protein complexes and conducting cell-based signaling assays to measure drug action. The projects are in collaboration with academic labs and biotech companies. The Cheng Zhang lab performs cutting-edge research in membrane protein structural biology, protein engineering, and antibody development. Working in the lab, the candidate will have the opportunities to: 1) learn useful techniques that are highly demanded in academic labs and the pharmaceutical industry; 2) be authored in high-impact scientific journals; 3) have interactions and build connections with leading scientists in academia and pharmaceutical industry.The candidate will conduct independent research projects involving cell-based signaling assays, large scale protein production using eukaryotic cells, cryo-EM sample preparation and data processing, and will receive training to learn necessary techniques; assist the PI to supervise lab businesses including ordering, equipment maintenance, lab cleaning, and lab meetings; prepare manuscripts, research proposals, articles, grant applications, and presentations based on research results; and train undergraduate and/or graduate students and facilitate work and project development in collaboration with other industry and academic specialists.Job SummaryPerforms a variety of independent and complex laboratory work and experiments.
