Lab Assistant I Location: Calabasas Hills, CA Duration: 3 Months with possible contract to hire/ with possible extension Description: Position Summary: Performs tasks associated with specimen management including receiving samples, loading and unloading automation, and storage. Essential Job Duties: Assists with loading and unloading of specimens on the Hamilton pipetting instruments including capping and uncapping samples, labeling aliquot tubes, pulling errors, and sorting aliquots. Receive and sort clinical lab specimens. Sorts specimens into appropriate station for manual pipetting. Returns specimens to appropriate locations. Performs discard and relocation of specimen racks. Prepare specimens for testing and analysis. Scan and/or data entry of specimen and patient information. Ensure all lab equipment is working properly and perform minor instrumentation maintenance. Troubleshoot any specimen related issues. Replenish test bench supplies as needed. Maintain a clean and safe work environment. Adheres to the standard operating procedures and safety requirements of Esoterix, CLIA, CAP and other regulatory bodies. Documents all quality assurance activities as necessary including preventative maintenance logs, instrument function checks, troubleshooting, and quality control to ensure regulatory compliance. Follows any other job-related instructions and performs any other job-related duties requested by department management. Required Work Experience: No experience required. This is an entry level position. Preferred 6 months of previous lab assistant experience. Physical Demands: Requires utilization of fingers and hands, standing-remaining on one’s feet in an upright position, sitting-remaining in the normal seated position, handling-seizing, holding, grasping, lifting, pushing, pulling. Requires the ability to lift up to 30 lbs. Working Conditions: There is regular exposure to potential blood-borne pathogens. Lab Assistants will be working in high volume, production-based environments performing a vital component of clinical lab science. Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent. Previous medical/lab or production experience is preferred. Comfortability with handling biological specimens. Ability to accurately identify specimens. Basic computer knowledge and data entry skills. High level of attention to detail with the ability to prioritize and multitask. Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment and meet established turn-around times. Strong communication skills: Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time. Must pass a standardized color blindness test.
