General Transportation Tech I:Performs routine transportation operations or maintenance support work such as: roadway maintenance and repair; light and heavy equipment operation; preventive and minor maintenance on equipment; traffic control; and helping the public during emergency situations. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.General Transportation Tech II and III: Performs moderately complex transportation operations or maintenance support work such as: maintenance contract an/or material and process inspections; roadway maintenance and repair; light an heavy equipment operation; preventive and minor maintenance on equipment, traffic control; and helping the public emergency situations. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor. Essential Duties:General Transportation Tech I:Assists with traffic control; places and gathers cones, warning signs and barricades; flags traffic.Maintains highways and rights-of-way; performs roadway repairs; erects and repairs guard rails, highway markers and signs; hauls materials and equipment to job sites.Move/picks up litter and roadway debris.Mows rights-of-way and picnic and rest areas; performs plant and landscape maintenance including trimming trees and brush.Operates light equipment such as a front-end loader-one and a quarter cubic yards or less, pneumatic roller, rotary broom, spreader box, backhoe, street sweeper, and mower. Performs preventive maintenance inspections (PMI), routine servicing and minor repairs on equipment and completes various required reports including time-keeping, equipment forms, inventory, accident forms, and PMI. Sands or cleans bridged and roads, posts warning signs, helps the public and performs other work as directed during emergency situations such as floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, snowstorms, accidents, and hazardous material spills.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. General Transportation Tech II: The above and:Assists in providing support to local law enforcement officials at accident sites; assists stranded motorists as requires. Assists with traffic control; places and gathers cones, warning signs and barricades; flags traffic. Maintains highways and rights-of-way; performs highly skilled roadway repairs; erects and repairs guard rails, highway markers and signs; hauls materials and equipment to job sites. Identifies, repairs, and installs signs, delineators, mail box supports and posts; performs welding; and uses/moves equipment/tools, materials and products. Inspects barricades to ensure compliance with barricade standards. Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. General Transportation Tech III: The above and:Identifies, analyzes, and implements solutions for complex maintenance problems. Maintains construction project records and/or bridge inspection records; processes related paperwork; reviews files for compliance with the bridge inspection Manual of Procedures. Inspects routine and non-routine maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications. Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
