Statement of Professional Recognition or School Social Work Endorsement (BOEE)
Iowa Department of Public Health Licensure (LMSW or LISW)
Competency working in a culturally diverse environment or the willingness to acquire these skills.
Successful experience in a school setting (desired)
JOB SUMMARY:
Enhance the educational programs of individuals by assisting in identification assessment and support of their educational needs including social, emotional, behavioral and adaptive needs. This position requires continuous use of independent judgment. The performance responsibilities as shown below represent only the key areas of responsibility; specific position requirements will vary depending on the needs of the student and family services department.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operate within a multidisciplinary team that serves students with disabilities.
Collaborate in the planning and participate in meetings of general education and special education students on the social worker’s roster related to social, emotional, behavioral needs.
Provide disability related group and individual counseling with students utilizing evidence based approaches.
Serve as liaison between home, school and community.
Keep current with issues, techniques and future trends in the field of school social work.
Provide leadership and support for students and staff regarding students with social, emotional, and behavioral needs.
Support and collaborate in general education behavioral MTSS process and interventions.
Facilitate referrals between school, community resources and families.
Provide consultation to school personnel and parents on issues related to social/emotional/behavioral health.
Conduct training for parents and school staff.
Assist building administrators in addressing attendance and suspension issues for students on the social worker’s roster and collaborate in intervention and planning.
Advocate for the human and civil rights of students.
Follow ethical responsibilities as a mandatory reporter and assist staff as needed.
Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.
Maintain confidentiality.
Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees.
Assist with other duties as may be assigned.
First responder to student in crisis related to suicide or self-harm.
Fulfill duties as ESSA Liaison for district.
Oversee homeless and migrant students of the district.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and contract length to be determined in accordance with the provisions of board policy.
EVALUATION: To be done annually by the Superintindent.
