TITLE:Junior High School Counselor DEPARTMENT:Junior High School REPORTS TO: Building Principal RECEIVES GUIDANCE FROM: Director of Teaching & Learning & School Counselor BASIC FUNCTION: Responsible for working collaboratively with teachers, administration, and parents to meet the needs of students through the development and implementation of academic, personal, social, and career awareness activities. KNOWLEDGE AND EDUCATION: Required:
Valid Iowa Counseling Certification- applicable to posting
Master’s degree required
Enthusiastic about learning and committed to continuous development as an educator and counselor

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Instructional and Counseling Responsibilities:
Implements the school counseling and guidance curriculum.
Facilitates the development and yearly updating of students' Individual Career and Academic Plan (ICAP).
Counsels small groups in a structured, goal oriented manner to meet the identified needs of students.
Counsels individual students on personal, social, or academic problems.
Consults with teachers, staff, and parents regarding the developmental needs of students.
Refers students with critical needs, in consultation with their parents, to appropriate community resources.
Works as a member of the Junior High school master schedule development team.
Ensures all students have access to and are enrolled in courses that will lead to students being prepared for attainment of a Winterset High School diploma that meets the gradation requirements as established by the board of education.
Participates in, coordinates, or conducts activities which contribute to the effective operation of the school.
Ensures accessibility of all programs for all students.
Evaluates and revises the building counseling and guidance program with staff and administration as needed.
Pursues continuous professional growth.
Implements all district policies and expected practices.

Terms of Employment: Salary and work year to be established in accordance with provisions of the Comprehensive Agreement. Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Comprehensive Agreement. Physical Requirements: Bending, carrying, climbing, travel between job sites, lifting, pushing-pulling, reaching, sitting, standing, and walking Working Conditions: Includes extremes of temperature and humidity. Hazards include stairs and communicable diseases.
