SUMMARY
DESCRIPTION
Under general supervision, installs, troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains electrical systems for generation plants, substations, maintenance facilities, and other facilities within the City and KPU for the Operations area of the Electric Division.The Journeyman Wireman/Electrician must perform his/her duties in a manner that reflects positively on the City, the Utility, and the Division, and is responsible for maintaining a level of professional expertise and image that promotes efficient use of the resources available to the Division.Positions within this classification may be assigned to work at the remote Swan Lake hydroelectric generating station.

Installs and maintains instrumentation in high voltagesubstations.Installs and maintains generating plant and substation control wiring, including generatorsystems.Programs and tests protective relays andmeters.Performs electric testing on generators, motors, and other electric components asrequired.Installs and maintains wiring and devices in KPU and other Cityinstallations.May create preliminary prints, conduct research, order parts, install, and test installationprojects.May assist anotherJourneyman.Installs and maintains PLCsystems.Installs and maintains battery banks andchargers.Performs related duties asrequired.QUALIFICATIONS

Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade with two years of electrician training and successful completion of an indentured apprenticeship program.Experience:
Three years of responsible electrican experience related to area ofassignment.License or Certificate:
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid drivers license. Possession of a State of Alaska Journeyman Electrician Certificate of Fitness.
