What You Will Do
The J Division Nevada Operations Group (J-NV) is seeking a qualified candidate to serve as a Deputy Group Leader (R&D Manager 3), partnering with the Group Leader and existing Deputy Group Leader to provide both managerial and technical leadership in the scientific, technical, and administrative aspects for the group. The Deputy Group Leader will actively participate in fostering a team environment with group-level staff, programmatic Nuclear Weapons Laboratory subject matter experts, federal partners, and stake holders. The DGL will assist in promoting Hazard Category 2 Nuclear Program development activities and ensure effective program execution.
J-NV plans, fields, and executes dynamic high explosive experiments at Nevada National Security Site (NNSS). This includes sub-critical experiments (SCEs) involving special nuclear material, as well as small- and large-scale non-nuclear experiments and sanitization operations. J-NV generates, analyzes, and disseminates unique, high-quality data for NNSA's Weapons and Global Security programs, as well as external government agencies. The DGL will report to the group leader and serve on the J Division management Team.

Leadership and Management
Demonstrated record of excellent leadership, management, and supervisory skills including professional-level experience in operations management and support. Demonstrated record of effective decision-making and creative problem solving. Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; strong teaming skills and demonstrated abilities to resolve conflict and build consensus.
Technical Knowledge
Demonstrated professional-level experience and scientific and technical excellence in at least one of the following areas: nuclear formality of operations principles (e.g. work control and conduct of operations), nuclear safeguards, nuclear criticality safety or experimental nuclear science and engineering.
Demonstrated strong background and record of achievement in planning, managing, and implementing engineering projects or programs from cradle-to-grave.
Communication
Demonstrated ability to communicate to personnel at all levels, with an emphasis on experience coordinating efforts in cross-organizational collaboration projects.
Safety
Demonstrated acumen in leading/enabling a robust Safety Culture
Clearance
Ability to obtain Q clearance, which typically requires US citizenship.
Education/Experience : Position requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution and 5 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications:
Demonstrated knowledge of Nuclear Safety Basis Operations.
Demonstrated knowledge of LANL weapon systems, sub-systems, and components.
Working knowledge of Nuclear Hazard Category 2 experiment test bed configuration as well as fielding and execution.
Active Q clearance.
Familiarity with radiological material handling operations and/or explosive handling and assembly operations.

Work Environment:
Work Location : This position is located at the Nevada National Security Site and is located about 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, NV. Employees can take a commuter bus, carpool, or drive to work locations. Once at the work location, experiment sites can be an Additional 30 to 50 miles. Employees must factor in an extra 1 to 1 ½ hours commute each way to the 10-hour workday (employees work a 4-day/10-hour day schedule).
Work at the NNSS usually results in long days that start at sunup and end late in the day. Work locations can be 1000 feet underground or in the middle of the desert. Temperatures can vary from below freezing to above 100 degrees. This position requires periodic travel from Las Vegas, NV to Los Alamos, NM for training and project-specific requirements.
Work Schedule: 4/10 Schedule
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.

Incentive Compensation Program: Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
