JOB SUMMARY
Stewardship is the heart of PERA's mission to provide retirement security toour members while ensuring the long-term financial sustainability of the Fund.The Temporary Investment Stewardship Associate assists with implementing thePERA Board's Proxy Voting Policy and facilitating stewardship engagementsthat support PERA's investment objective and processes. This position isresponsible for voting proxies in compliance with stated guidelines,maintaining accurate and thorough records of votes cast, and aggregating andanalyzing data pertaining to voting activity. Additional duties may includeindependent research on financially material ESG themes and participating instewardship related engagements with internal and external stakeholders. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Vote proxies in compliance with the PERA Board's Proxy Voting PolicyAnalyze management and shareholder proposals, escalating complex proposalsto senior Investment Stewardship staff for peer reviewMaintain accurate and thorough records of PERA's proxy voting activitiesMonitor votes, resolving or escalating any issues appropriately and in atimely mannerCollect, verify, and report proxy voting data on routine and ad hoc basesEngage with PERA's public equity investors, as appropriate, to makeinformed vote decisions and to support their fundamental research needsParticipate in public equity portfolio company engagements with a focus onstrong corporate governance and financial outcomesPerform research and analysis on stewardship and financially material ESGthemes, as needed to support proxy voting or when requested by investment teamBuild and maintain productive business relationships with internal andexternal partnersParticipate in stakeholder engagements, as appropriateUphold PERA's mission, fiduciary duty, and responsible investment approachEmbody PERA's core values and standards of excellence through ethicalconduct and member-focused serviceMaintain prompt and regular attendance in the workplaceOther duties as assignedQUALIFICATIONS
4+-year degree in finance, economics, business administration,corporate law, or related field; 1-3 years of relevant asset management orfinancial services experience; or equivalent combination of education andexperBroad knowledge of financial markets, investment instruments, processes,and data; experience in public equity markets, corporate governance,fundamental analysis, and shareholder rights preferredDemonstrated ability to coordinate with numerous market participants in acomplex and fast-paced environmentQualitative and quantitative reasoning skills with the ability to identifypatterns, risks, benefits, and potential outcomesCustomer service orientation with excellent verbal and written communicationskillsHigh attention to detail and accuracyProficiency using cloud-based and Microsoft applications including Excel,Word, and PowerPoint; experience with proxy voting platforms preferredWORKING CONDITIONS
