Job Summary:
The Certified Invasive Cardiology Specialist performs adult diagnostic andinterventional cardiovascular procedures. This position functionsindependently as an expert technologist who is a highly competent andclinically skilled member of the Invasive Cardiology Team at Denver Health.The team includes registered nurses, cardiovascular technologists, nursepractitioners, physician assistants, cardiology fellows and facultyphysicians. In addition to assisting the physicians with the most complexprocedures, this position oversees the technical operations required for theperformance of routine diagnostics and advanced interventional cardiovascularprocedures. The Certified Invasive Cardiology Specialist performs allprocedures with proficiency and demonstrates technical expertise, making asignificant contribution to the diagnosis and treatment of patients withcardiac dysfunction. This specialist possesses expert clinical and technicalknowledge which they apply to collect and assess data, in collaboration withthe multidisciplinary team, to provide therapeutic care for the patient andfamily systematically and continuously. The person must demonstrate a highdegree of understanding of the interpretation of cardiac arrhythmias and allinvasive cardiology procedures. The individual must be competent in propersterile technique and will assist the physician with diagnostic andinterventional invasive cardiology procedures and may also be involved inelectrophysiology procedures. The individual must be competent in theoperation and troubleshooting skills of specialty equipment and x-ray systems.
Essential Functions:This position requires the individual to be flexible in their work scheduleincluding but not limited to extended shifts and on-call per operationalneeds. 15%Monitor hemodynamics and record patients during procedures. 15%Assess patient intra and post procedures and patient care withincardiovascular scope of practice, patient teaching, and scrubbing rolesfor invasive procedures performed in the department. 15%Performs and assists the interventionalist with the most complexcardiovascular studies and is able to anticipate the needs of the patient andphysician based on the procedures performed. 15%Operates complex specialty equipment within Invasive Cardiology. 15%Performs at an expert clinical level and assists the physician in theperformance of adult cardiovascular procedures; including both diagnosticand interventional. 20%Serves as an expert resource and educator to all cardiovascular staff,nurses, Cardiovascular Techs, fellows and physicians as appropriate.Performs other duties as assigned .Complies with all policies and standard.
Education:High School Diploma or GED required.A graduate of a certificate or degree granting program or post-secondaryeducational program in a health science (cardiovascular/electrophysiologytechnology, ultrasound, radiologic technology, or paramedic/EMT) required.
Work Experience:1-3 years previous invasive cardiology (catheterization) lab experiencewith cardiovascular and electrophysiology focus required.
Licenses:Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialists (RCIS) certificationthrough Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) OR CardiacInterventional Radiography Specialty (ARRT(CI)) certification throughAmerican Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) required forspecialty valNon-ARRT (R) require Fluoroscopy Licensure through DORA
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Demonstrated ex ertise in performing all aspects of recording, scrubbing,and monitoring for Cath/EP lab procedures.Demonstrated expertise related to cardiovascular theory and technical skill.Ability to effectively teach and precept staff in cardiovascular theory andtechnical skills.Competency with imaging and specialized cardiovascular and electrophysiologyequipment within scope of practiceServes as a role model to all personnel by demonstrating a high level ofexpertise with invasive cardiology systems, including trouble-shootingskills, effective interactions with patients & staff, leadership abilityand professional behavior.High level of professionalism and accountability.Excellent critical thinking and troubleshooting skills.EPIC Skills or other EMR skill...
