We are actively seeking a hardworking, energetic, self-starter to join our team in Chesapeake, VA as an International Merchandising Intern . Perdue's 10-week Summer Internship program is designed to combine knowledge learned in the classroom with meaningful, real-world experiences. This internship will provide an understanding of the business requirements needed to orignate, procure, and merchandise various commodities internationally.
Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Develop an understanding of the agricultural business processes.
Develop an understanding of international grain origination and procurement.
Develop an understanding of grain storage technologies, and perform assigned research and project work related to an agricultural business.
Develop an understanding of the logistics and transportation requirements for the movement of international grain.
Develop an understanding of the environmental and safety requirements of an agricultural business.
Minimum Education
Junior or Senior currently pursuing a Bachelors degree in Business, AgriBusiness, Agriculture, Economics, or a related field
3.0 or higher
Experience Requirements
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office.
Strong communication skills including written and verbal.
Must be able to work independently or in teams.
Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements
Position is mostly sedentary but may require occasional moving to other offices or buildings. May need to move light equipment or supplies from one place to another. May need to access files, supplies, and equipment. Must be able to work in different production environments (hot and cold). Some minor lifting may be required (product cases). Able to move freely about farms and other agricultural areas. Exposed to external weather conditions to include rain and extreme temperatures (-15 to 90 Degrees Fahrenheit), humidity, (0 - 100%), and noise (50db to 100db). Able to use standard office equipment including telephones, computers, copiers, etc.
