We are seeking an Intern - Mechanical Engineering, R&D Undergrad Summer to join our dynamic team!
On any given day, you may be called on to:
Set up, calibrate, and qualify 3-D printers and additive manufacturing equipment.Participate in the product realization process (design through delivery); including early engagement in the development phase to define, validate, and clarify requirements for mechanical parts/components destined for use in nuclear weapons.Be the technical interface to product realization teams and the commercial supply base for the design and delivery of mechanical parts/components used in nuclear weapon design, development, and production activities.Lead efforts to improve the fundamental understanding of material requirements, defining and conducting experimental work to close knowledge gaps and improve design definition within additive manufacturing (3D printing)Manage product design definition (drawings, specifications, etc.) through the product life cycle (design-development-delivery)Employ quality management systems and techniques; developing and managing comprehensive verification/qualification plans and defining acceptance criteria.Manage multiple organizational interfaces; internally and externally.Run and facilitate data analytics reports and meetings.Assist the identification, development, and qualification of suppliers, as well as assessing the technical capabilities of the suppliers to meet weapons requirements.Anticipate and manage risk (i.e. sole source suppliers, sunset materials, technology development, etc.); identifying viable alternates and leading the technical evaluations and way we make decisions
Salary Range:

Our pay structure is based on earned credit hours, classification, and degree level. Your pay rate will be determined during the hire process and included in your offer package. Qualifications We Require:
You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:
Currently attending and enrolled full time in the spring term immediately preceding the internship (or scheduled to graduate in the spring) in an accredited undergraduate programPursuing a science, engineering, or math majorMinimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0Ability to work up to 40 hours per week during the summerU.S. citizenship

Qualifications We Desire:
Pursuing a BS in Mechanical Engineering or related degreeCurrently attending and enrolled full time in an accredited undergraduate programReside locally, position is a summer intern at SNL in Albuquerque, N.M. and many duties of the position must be performed onsiteStrong interest in mechanical designExperience of design for additive manufacturing and use of additive manufacturing equipment and/or 3D printersExperience using CAD software (Creo, Solidworks, etc.)Basic knowledge of design for manufacturing (DFM), Lean/Six Sigma and continuous improvement and their applicationBasic knowledge and/or exposure to Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)Desire to use engineering expertise in the weapons product realization process, cradle to graveDemonstrated ability to work in multi-functional teamsDemonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced/schedule driven environmentEffective oral and written communication skillsExperience in application of the scientific method; gathering, analyzing and presenting technical data for decision making/problem solving purposesKnowledge of statistically based tolerance analysisThe ability to obtain and maintain DOE Q clearance

About Our Team:
The Purchased Product Value Stream (PPVS) Tooling & Planning Team (7567-1) is a dynamic highly integrated team that is responsible for design, drafting and procurement and provides the technical leadership to identify, develop and deliver custom tooling, gages, fixtures, and molds (TGFM) in support of Center 7500 production activities and NG Product Realization Teams. We also provide materials planning expertise; using industry standard materials planning processes and tools to initiate the procurement phase and monitor the supply chain to meet product realization schedules. The PPVS Tooling & Planning Team is part of a larger Purchased Product Value Stream (Org. 7567) team that is responsible for product engineering and materials planning for nuclear weapons design, development, and production activities.

Security Clearance:
