What Your Job Will Be Like:
The dynamic Advanced Metal Processing Team is seeking a year round undergraduate intern with a background in materials, engineering, and programming to join our outstanding team. The primary job function of the student intern is to support a cross-disciplinary team tasked with the development and implementation of a materials information management solution called Granta MI. The student intern will assist with data management, data analysis, and provide support to a cross-section of scientists and engineers with a range of material data information needs. The student is required to work for 10-15 hours per week during regular business hours in Albuquerque, NM, during the academic year, and 40 hours per week during the summer.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
Interact directly with team members and customers who utilize Granta for materials data applications.Develop data management solutions (using Excel, Python, and other applications) for materials data import, export, and analysis.Assist with data entry of materials specifications and experimental data

Currently attending and enrolled full time in an accredited undergraduate programPursuing a science, engineering, or math majorMinimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0Ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summerU.S. citizenship
Qualifications We Desire:
Freshman or Sophomore Undergraduate student in Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or other related disciplineExperience working in a research setting including class labs: computational, wet, or mechanical.Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, databases, Python, Git, and/or other expertise related to programmingAbility to work as part of a team as well as independently with minimal supervisionStrong oral and written communicationEnrolled or have taken basic science (chemistry and physics) and Introductory Materials Science coursesAble to work on site in Albuquerque, NM, during regular business hoursAbility to obtain and maintain a DOE L

About Our Team:
The Advanced Metal Processing Department provides scientific and engineering expertise in the areas of laser machining/surface modification, precision engineering, metal additive manufacturing, welding and implementation of Granta Materials Information. Precision engineering includes the design and fabrication of components by conventional subtractive machining, additive manufacturing, electrical discharge machining (EDM), laser machining, laser etching/annealing, optical probe measurements as well as technical consulting. Metal additive manufacturing expertise includes alloy development, qualification/acceptance, and design. Current technologies utilized include laser powder bed, wire arc and laser, metal fused deposition (FDM), and directed energy deposition (DED). We support the application and maintenance of the Granta Materials Information database for the Laboratories. Our staff supports a variety of programs and is highly engaged in providing collaborative, innovative materials science and systems-based engineering solutions.

Security Clearance:
