Position Summary:
The Central Michigan University College of Education & Human Services is seeking to hire a highly qualified full-time, 9-month, tenure track position in the dual-accredited undergraduate Interior Design program, with an anticipated start date of August 19, 2024, and no later than January 9, 2025. This position will require teaching undergraduate courses in interior design with expertise in one of the following specialty areas:
• Industry-standard software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
• Design Processes, involving both application and documentation, encompassing the integration of creativity, functional analysis, building systems, and problem-solving within human-centered design studio classes, e.g., hospitality, special user groups, and mixed-use design.
Please indicate the rank and track for which you wish to be considered: Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor. The successful candidate should maintain a record appropriate to rank of teaching, scholarly and creative activities including publications and grant writing. Candidates applying for the Associate or full Professor position should demonstrate a well-established record of scholarship, service, and evidence of excellence in teaching. The expectations will be commensurate with the level being sought (Assistant, Associate, or full Professor).
The successful candidate is expected to consistently uphold research endeavors throughout their career. The candidate will participate in activities such as curriculum development; advising undergraduate students; providing service to the department, college, university and community; as well as maintaining accreditation standards for CIDA and NASAD.
Required Qualifications:
• Terminal degree (Ph.D., M.F.A., M. Arch., or equivalent) with at least one graduate degree in Interior Design or a related field is required at the time employment begins; will consider ABD candidates for the rank of Assistant Professor, however, first reappointment will be contingent upon degree completion.
• NCIDQ certification or progress towards completion within one year.
• Evidence of college-level teaching effectiveness.
• Evidence of successful scholarly and creatively activities.
• Experience with and competency in industry-standard software.
• Evidence of excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication in English.
• Affiliation with professional organizations in the discipline.
• Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Competency in industry-standard software AutoCAD and Revit.
• WELL AP, LEED AP, AAHID, CAPS certification or other professional certifications.
• Experience with online teaching.
• Previous experience in interior design professional practice.
• Demonstrated effective undergraduate advising.
• Demonstrated effective recruitment and outreach activities.
