What You'll Be Doing
Job Scope: Generally responsible for performing routine design of less complex engineering assignments using theoretical knowledge and practical design methods. This level is expected to assist in the design of larger and more complex instrumentation engineering assignments. This work will be performed under close supervision.
Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
Provide day-to-day instrument and electrical advice and expertise.
Work with Placid E/I maintenance group to address deficiencies and eliminate bad actors.
Conduct troubleshooting, sizing, selection and specification of instrumentation, analyzers, and electrical equipment.
Identify new technology opportunities for existing refinery E/I systems
Provide oversight to in-house E/I designer(s) as necessary to produce construction packages.
Assist operations teams in implementing management of change (MOC) projects.
Support other project and maintenance engineers in specifying proper E/I equipment for their projects.
Partner with process engineering to identify, initiate, and implement improvements to existing refinery E/I systems.
Interface with Placid Automation group to ensure Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Distributed Control Systems (DCS) are properly programmed to interface with refinery processes.
Coordinate E/I capital projects, overseeing engineer selection, scope development, engineering drawing approval, equipment selection and procurement, bid package, contractor selection, field coordination and estimations for budget.
Engineer solutions to problems in original design or changes in design (temporary or permanent) of existing/new instrumentation and electrical systems ensuring the designs meet any applicable codes or standards.
Interface with in-house design team, as well as outside design companies to complete detailed design.
Assist maintenance and operations teams during Refinery turnarounds.
Ensure timely completion of assigned projects.
Perform commissioning review on assigned projects and address any items on punch list prior to startup.
Perform process start-up safety review on assigned projects.
Provide hands-on assistance to plant operations and startups.
Perform other duties/assignments as necessary.

Ideal Background
Education: Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university is required.
Registration: Engineer in Training (EIT) registration is strongly preferred. Professional Engineering registration is preferred upon eligibility.
Experience: This position requires a minimum 3 - 10 years of relevant industrial experience in electrical and instrumentation engineering.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Demonstrated computer literacy skills, with proficiency in any specialty software packages related to E/I engineering.
Extensive working knowledge of refinery E/I equipment.
Capable of populating instrument specification sheets.
Knowledge of safety, code, and regulatory requirements.
Ability to estimate and plan projects.
Ability to multitask and prioritize in periods of peak work volume.
Ability to work under stressful conditions while maintaining professional demeanor
Demonstrated communication skills, both orally and written, in working with all levels of refinery personnel and external customers and vendors.
Physical Requirements
Range of motion required to climb and descend ladders, stairs, and visually inspect equipment.
Ability to work at heights up to fifty feet.
Must not be taking controlled substance for pain.
Ability to lift up to twenty-five pounds.
Physical range of motion required to operate standard office equipment.
Must be able to negotiate stairs.
In the case of an emergency, must be able to walk quickly and calmly to a designated assembly area.
