The Health Professions and Public Service division at WaubonseeCommunity College is currently seeking a full-time, tenure-trackInstructor of Health Information Technology (HIT) with a commitment toteaching excellence, diversity, equity and holistic student success.
The Health Information Technology (HIT) faculty will delivercomprehensive curriculum and instruction for a range of topics clinicalclassification systems, health care law, data management, reimbursementsystems, data statistics and analysis, health care information systemsand other related courses.
The full-time faculty member of HIT will be responsible for thecurriculum, instruction, and student learning assessment for Associatein Applied Science degree as well as a Certificate of Achievement. Thisprogram is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for HealthInformatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM), onrecommendation of the American Health Information Management Association(AHIMA).
The position is based at the Downtown Aurora Campus and teachingassignments may include days, evenings and/or weekends. Courses may beoffered in various delivery modes, i.e. face-to-face, flex, online,synch-online, and hybrid. The successful candidate will demonstrate theability to effectively use instructional and classroom technology toenhance teaching and learning.
Minimum Qualifications
Duties and expectations of this position include, but are not limitedto:
Designing syllabi, lessons, activities, assignments, and assessmentsthat address the needs of a diverse student population and ensure thatstudents successfully meet program and course objectives and outcomes.
Incorporating learning-centered principles and concepts and motivatingstudents to participate actively in all aspects of the educationalexperience.
Employing instructional and classroom technology appropriately andeffectively to deliver and enhance teaching and learning in online,hybrid, and face-to-face courses.
Assisting the HIT department in the areas of curriculum development,accreditation management, student success initiatives, student advising,adjunct faculty mentor ship, assessment of student learning, support forstudent clubs and organizations.
Collaborating with team members and industry (i.e. Advisory Committeeand employer partners) to design and implement the most effective HITprogram that maintains standards.
Working collaboratively with professional colleagues to serve the needsof students and the community.
Modeling professionalism with excellent communication, presentation, andinterpersonal skills.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor\'s degree
Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) Certification
Two years of field work (which equals 4000 hours for accreditationrequirements)
Teaching experience or Industry experience
Preferred Qualifications
Two years of post-secondary teaching experience in Health InformationTechnology (HIT) or a related field.
Teaching experience at the Vocational/Technical or Community Collegelevel highly preferred.
Experience incorporating technology and multimedia applications intoteaching and learning process and interest in all forms of alternativelearning is highly desirable.
Interdisciplinary focus integrating innovative learning strategies andthe demonstrated ability to enhance the success of diverse studentpopulations is essential.
Experience teaching traditionally underserved populations.
Experience teaching online courses.
