INSPECTIONAL SERVICE CLERK Position Purpose/Summary Responsible formonitoring permits, plans and documents filed with the Department ofCode Enforcement Building and Housing Code Enforcement Divisions forcompliance with federal and state laws, rules or regulations and allappropriate procedures. Work is performed with the exercise ofconsiderable initiative and judgment in making decisions of importantpublic and legal consequences under the supervision of the Commissionerof Code Enforcement and/or Deputy Director of Housing Code Enforcementwith review through reports and conferences. No supervision is exercisedover other employees. Essential Functions Coordinates work reception andbusiness flow of the Code Enforcement Department Building Division andHousing Code Enforcement Division. Attends customer service counter bylogging in all activity, receiving plans and complaints. Providestechnical assistance, answers questions and resolves problems within thedefined record areas. Prepares letters, reports, spread sheets,certificates of inspection, certificates of occupancy, appropriatezoning information, weights and measures correspondence and findings,condemnations, and ticket process. Provides information and customerservice to plumbers, electricians, contractors, lawyers, realtors,builders, inter-departmental requests for information, municipal andstate employees, and the general public. Coordinates the collection andreporting of statistics as required by law and for intra-departmentaluse and files. Monitors regularly the accuracy, completeness andtimeliness of processing complaints. Provides clerical assistance andoffice support to any inspectional services position in the department.Performs related work as required or assigned. Knowledge, Skills, andAbilities Thorough knowledge of modern office practices, procedures andequipment. Thorough knowledge of and excellent ability to use computersand various programs applicable to the needs of the department. Thoroughknowledge of departmental procedures and practices, especially asrelated to Building and Housing Code Inspectional Services. Considerableknowledge of laws, rules and regulations governing building and housingcodes, and other work performed. Ability to utilize interpersonalskills, including the ability to establish and maintain effectiveworking relationships with employees and the general public. Ability toidentify and understand problems and to determine appropriate measures.Ability to independently develop, layout, install and revise proceduresat the direction of the Code Enforcement Commissioner and DeputyDirector of Housing Code Enforcement. Education and Experience Highschool diploma supplemented by computer courses, work shops and seminarsrelated to inspectional services and code enforcement law and ordinance.Several years experience in complex and responsible clerical workinvolving code enforcement and inspectional services procedures.
