As the ICN, youplan, organize, develop, coordinate, direct and evaluate our InfectionControl Program and its components in accordance with current federal,state, local and corporate standards, guidelines and regulations thatgovern such programs, and as may be directed by the Administrator andthe Infection control Committee to ensure that an effective InfectionPrevention & Control Program is maintained. Education & Experience: Mustpossess, as a minimum, a Nursing Degree from an accredited school ofnursing, college or university. Must possess a current, unencumberedlicense to practice nursing in this state and be CPR-certified. Mustpossess training or current experience in wound care. Certification ininfection control and/or wound care preferred, but not necessary. Twoyears of Infection Control/Wound Care experience preferred. Must have asa minimum, two (2) years clinical experience in a long-term carefacility. Must have training in rehabilitative and restorative nursingpractices. Must possess a working knowledge of epidemiology,microbiology, infectious diseases, and aseptic techniques to includeStandard Precautions. Duties & Responsibilities: Maintains, executes andoversees the comprehensive Infection Control and Prevention Program.Communicates and informs the Infection Control and Prevention Committeeof any Infection related issue, i.e.; outbreak activity, via QuarterlyMedical Staff/QA reports. Maintains accurate and comprehensivedocumentation related to the Infection Control & Prevention Program.Maintains accurate and comprehensive documentation related to thefacility Skin Integrity Program. Evaluates the status of Infectionrelated practices in the facility via monthly surveillance rounds.Maintains updated community awareness of potentially threateninginfections. Assists the Staff Development Director in the education ofemployees in Infection Control Practices, Policies, and Procedures.Coordinates and reports on the Annual OSHA Sharps survey. MaintainsEmployee Health Records Participates in the Employee Health and SafetyCommittees. Reviews Monthly Laboratory reports, assures up to datelaboratory policy/procedure manuals are available. Reviews the annualantibiogram. Handles the Employee Exposure follow up procedures. Reviewsemployee illness logs for trends/patterns and outbreaks and institutesappropriate infection control measures. Coordinates employee annual TBsymptom surveys; if annual employee Tuberculin skin tests are required,will assure their completion. Coordinates and assists in the annualinfluenza program. Protects residents\' individual health information.Specific Requirements: Must be able to read, write, speak and understandthe English language. Must possess the ability to make independentdecisions when circumstances warrant such actions in a timely manner.Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents,family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the generalpublic. Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices andprocedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain tolong term care and infection control, to include Universal Precautions.
