　　Position Title:           Skilled Maintenance (HVAC Technician)

　　The Mechanic (Skilled Maintenance/HVAC Tech) position reports directly to the Director of Buildings and Grounds.

　　Principal Functions:  

　　Employees in the skilled maintenance classification will perform maintenance work of any kind, which may be assigned to them.  Such maintenance work includes, but shall not be limited to, the following: electrical, carpentry, plumbing, painting, roofing, refrigeration, heating, air conditioning, and snow removal. A skilled maintenance employee may be used more often in a specific area of maintenance and repair in which they have greater expertise, but this will not limit their assignment in other maintenance areas as required.

　　Essential Duties and Responsibilities*: 

　　Performs repair work, as assigned, on any type of equipment or building in the school districtParticipate in installing or replacing equipment or structures to restore or improve normal operations and performanceModify, alter or replace existing equipment or structures to restore or improve normal operation and performanceMaintain daily communication with the Director of Building and Grounds regarding work assignments and status of work in progressMaintain a set of tools necessary to perform the required maintenance workParticipate in snow removal, as necessary, to maintain free access to all school buildingsMaintain availability for emergency circumstances which occur during other than normal working hoursResponsible for purchasing necessary parts and materials required to complete work assignmentsPrepare quotes for parts and materialsTemporarily perform certain duties of the Building Supervisor when he/she is absent.Perform other duties that may be assigned by the Director of Buildings and Grounds or his designee.*This list is intended to be illustrative rather than complete, and serves to show major duties and responsibilities and differentiates the position from others in the district.

　　Physical Necessities and Work Environment:

　　Position requires sitting, standing, walking or moving throughout the building, often for extended periods of the workday.  Must be able to hear (40 decibel loss maximum), verbally communicate, and have vision requirements of near acuity of 20 inches or less and far acuity of 20 feet or more with depth perception, accommodation and field vision. Performs a variety of duties, able to make judgments and work under high level of stress. Required to move (push, pull, lift, carry, slide) parts or equipment weighing no more than 60 pounds.  Requires use of either hand for simple grasping, fine manipulation, and push/pull functions.  Climb stairs and ladders in and around the building. Will required bending and reaching to secure items from shelves and racks. Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.
