The School of Molecular and Cellular Biology (MCB) seeks qualifiedcandidates for the full-time position of Human Resource Generalist/Senior Human Resource Generalist. The School of MCB acts as the serviceunit for five departments, providing common services such as studentadvising, research service facilities, business office services,information technology (IT), human resources (HR), and the Life SciencesStoreroom.
Job Summary
The Human Resource Generalist (HRG) will execute the human resourceactivities for the School of Molecular & Cellular Biology (SMCB) thatsupport the principles, values, and mission of the School by performingrelated duties in support of faculty and administration.
The Senior Human Resource Generalist serves as the primary HumanResources Front End processor for the School of Molecular & CellularBiology; facilitates appointment transaction services and assist withsearches for various academic positions. This position serves as aresource for school faculty and staff on campus/college/school policiesand procedures, as they relate to Human Resources and is responsible foradministrative duties that require direct contact with staff, unitmanagers, Illinois Human Resources (IHR), University Payroll andBenefits Office (UPB) and International Student and Scholar Services(ISSS).
Duties & Responsibilities
Employment Processes (Hiring, onboarding, separating)
Perform as HR Resource for post docs, visiting scholars, academichourlies, extra help, and retiree rehires, providing end-to-endassistance for newly hired employees, current employees andseparating employees, for all areas of personnel and payroll.Issuance and approval of offer letters for student hourly, graduateassistants and extra help; work within guidelines established by theappropriate collective bargaining agreement(s), following federaland state laws, along with campus and college policies andprocedures.Assist the Assistant Director for Human Resources with searches forAcademic Professionals, Civil Service staff, and prepare searchdocs. Sr HR Generalist- and serve as the HR representative forproper search procedures.Possess working knowledge of I-9 Tracker. Serve as backup I-9manager for the School HR office.Sr HR Generalist- Facilitate retiree rehire requests and proceduresfrom start to finish, including but not limited to, positiondevelopment and approvals, and acting as the point of contact forthe retiree on the submission of required forms.Employee Record Management
Serve as primary for internal appointment tracking systems,verifying accuracy of appointments.Serve as the primary processor for both Civil Service hourly andnon-Civil Service hourly bi-weekly payroll.Maintain comprehensive files, ensuring personnel and supportingdocuments are scanned and saved appropriately, with discretion ofconfidential matters and documents.Advise, coordinate, and process appropriate visas for allinternational faculty and academic visitors. This involves knowledgeof University and Immigration policies and procedures, communicationwith incoming and currently, employees, preparation of visa andPermanent Residency applications, labor certification, andrecord-keeping regarding employees\' eligibility to continue towork. Communicate with scholars, faculty, employees, andInternational Student and Scholar Services to ensure correctprocedures are followed.Sr HR Generalist- Handle corrective me sures for appointmentprocessing, HR Front End changes, pay adjustments, overpayments andearnings transfers.Sr HR Generalist- Provide HR leadership and guidance to faculty,graduate students and hourly employees as well as the supervisorsand School leadership.Additional Duties and Responsibilities
Assist with Service in Excess of 100% forms, where needed.Perform other duties as assigned.Sr HR Generalist- Represent the School of Molecular & CellularBiology and HR Team at various college and campus meetings.Participate in the analysis, design, and implementation of HRStandard Operating Procedures.Required Qualifications
Bachelor\'s degree in Human Resource Administration, Management,Organizational Administration, Public Administration, LaborRelations, Business Administration or a field closely related to theposition.Two (2) years (24 months) of work experience performingprofessional-level human resources duties.Senior HR Generalist: Three (3) years of work experience performingprofessional level human resources.Preferred Qualifications
Minimum of two years (Sr HR Generalist- 3 years) of progressive workexperience that demonstrates strong ability to research, interpret andmake recommendations based on HR policy.
