About Hospital Patient Services Clerk 1

  Job Summary: Duties include but are not limited to: Conducting a courteous, professional interview with patient. Gather and enter all demographic and insurance data into CAIS. Obtain required signatures, distribute forms and patient cards appropriately. Correctly identify and attach patient bracelets. Maintain patient confidentiality. Provide information and directions to patients. Maintain knowledge of department policy and procedures and maintain an accuracy rate within established guidelines. Provide flexibility in schedule to accommodate staffing needs of the department. Will participate in cross-training in other admitting areas. Will need to be able to prioritize work and handle stressful situations. Will perform support functions as necessary such as filing, assist supervisor in new employee training, etc. Strong customer service, communication and organizational skills are necessary.

  Minimum Qualifications:

  The NYS Department of Civil Service has developed the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement (HELP) Program, Effective April 5th, 2023. During this program, the NYS Civil Service Exam requirements are suspended for the Hospital Patient Services Clerk 1, SG07 title.

  For consideration for this title, you must meet the following minimum qualifications:

  One year full-time clerical, secretarial or patient care experience in a healthcare setting.

  Work Days:

  Schedule based on 40 hour work week. Primary shift 1:30-10pm with every other weekend working in the CC ED from 3pm-11:30pm.
