As a licensed architect or engineer with a technical focus in historic preservation and heritage structures, you will foster client relationships, manage projects, and mentor up-and-coming staff, all while still getting to do the hands-on technical work you are passionate about.Responsibilities:Technical project execution, including performing and training others in hands-on field work; applying sound judgment, a deep understanding of governing codes and standards, and expertise in a variety of historic construction materials and building systems for the evaluation, restoration, repair design, and preservation of existing and historically-significant structures; preparing technically excellent client deliverables; and providing high-quality reviews of work by othersProject management, including client development, project scoping, assembling and managing appropriate project teams, maintaining project schedules and budgets, and managing client expectations and deliverablesCollaboration with interdisciplinary project teams, including providing expertise for a variety of existing structures and historic preservation projects and partnering with other internal and external experts in the pursuit and delivery of various RFPs, RFQs, and IDIQ contractsContributions to company-wide objectives through mentoring, participation in office and company development initiatives, participation with in-house Technical Resource Groups (TRGs), involvement in professional organizations, and business development to attract new and repeat clientsQualifications:Bachelor's or master's degree in architecture and/or engineering with certification, coursework, or full degree in historic preservationRegistered Architect (RA) or Professional Engineer (PE); other relevant professional certifications will be considered with significant relevant experienceMinimum eight years in the industry, including significant technical experience in the evaluation, restoration, repair design, and preservation of existing and historically-significant structures, construction materials, and building systemsEffective technical, graphical, written, and verbal communication skillsDemonstrated competence in transitioning quickly between multiple priorities while maintaining effective coworker and client relationshipsNice-to-Haves:Established expertise with some or all of the following materials, systems, and their interfaces: brick masonry, stone masonry, terra cotta, cast stone, natural stone, dimension stone, cast iron, cast-in-place concrete, plaster, wood structures, steel and wood window systems, coatings, steep-sloped tile and low-sloped built-up roofing, waterproofing, facades, building envelope, etc.Well-developed rapport with contractors, designers, building officials, and other key stakeholders in local marketExperience navigating a variety of local and national agencies, institutions, and jurisdictions, particularly the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum CommissionExperience with National Register/Landmark nominations, Historic Structures Reports (HSRs), and HABS and HAER documentationPhysical Requirements:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
