About Highway Section Head

  Position summary: The successful candidate will be responsible for engineering design of transportation highways including the pavement section, sidewalks, trails, drainage, culverts, nonstructural retaining walls, and signing/marking, using knowledge of roadway engineering principles and practices to interpret, organize, execute and coordinate assignments with limited supervision. Responsible for business development, financial success, and managing staff for the department. Acts as a technical advisor to less experienced engineers.

  Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  Coordinate strategic growth plan with office managers and practice leaders

  Establish and grow market presence in area through marketing and business development

  Manage financial budget for department and allocate resources accordingly

  Lead and contribute to the production of proposals

  Serve as a technical expertise resource to project managers and technical staff

  Establish resources staffing needs for the section

  Interview and hire staff for the section

  Perform performance reviews for staff based on input from project managers on assigned teams

  Coordinate work-sharing within region and between regions

  Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities

  Perform other related duties as assignedRequired Skills

  Excellent written and oral communication skills

  Proficient in Microsoft Office

  Proficient in Microsoft Projects for Project Schedule development

  Proficient in OpenRoads and/or MicroStation

  Required Experience

  Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field from an accredited program

  Professional Engineer License

  15+ years’ experience in specialized discipline

  Project management and business development experience

  Successfully work and manage multiple projects in a dynamic, fast-paced team-oriented environment

  Ability to manage, mentor, and provide guidance and direction to staff

  Thorough understanding of the TXDOT design standards, policies, specifications, Integrated Project Delivery (IPD)process and plan preparation

  Qualifications Preferred

  Experience collaborating with local clients at the county and state level

  TXDOT and municipal experience preferred

  Supervisory experience and leading a multidiscipline team preferred

  Working Conditions

  JMT offers a flexible work environment when approved by your supervisor. Work is performed within a general office environment. Work is sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.
