Summary Position is located at the Pine Ridge Service Unit in Pine Ridge South Dakota, and serves as a support member of the nursing team. Incumbent will perform duties under the direction of the supervisory clinic nurse and is an assistant to the physician, advance practice provider or nurse in the Nursing Departments Specialty Clinic. Responsibilities Completes tasks that are of a clerical and technical support to the Medical and Nursing staff, provides ongoing monitoring of vital signs, performs testing for blood glucose monitoring and provides informal and basic health education and teaching to patients and families. Provides patient care within scope of practice, observes patients that are at risk to cause self-harm and performs transfer, lifting or ambulating of patients using proper body mechanics and lifting methods. Stocks supplies in exam rooms, performs as a receptionist, maintains various unit logs and patient census and other related clerical duties associated with patient care and treatment Safely operates specialized equipment and floats to all inpatient and outpatient units as assigned and work on a rotational basis to provide continuity of patient care during days, evenings, nights, holidays and weekends. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least 6 months of general experience & 6 months of specialized experience for the GS-4 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Specialized Experience GS-4: Examples include: take and record vital signs, schedule appointments, maintain security and confidentiality of data and information. Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Specialized Experience GS-5: Examples include: Administering screening assessments for preventative health (intimate partner violence, frequency of alcohol and other drug use, depression assessment, tobacco use history), distinguishing between normal and abnormal findings of vital signs and point of care testing, and administering intervention as prescribed by the provider, typical of medical assistant or health education positions. Specialized Experience GS-6: Examples include: Venipuncture, collecting and labeling lab specimens, performing basic wound/skin care measures, ordering and fitting durable medical supplies to patient need, typical of experienced medical assistant or health education positions. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
