  Your Specific Responsibilities:

  This is work providing routine, personal healthcare in the Franklin County Schools under the direction of the Senior Community Health Nurse. Travel required.

  Health Room Services: Provides first aide for the students at assigned school. Maintains daily health log and record of student encounters on Health Master computer program. Administers medications with oversight by the school health nurse, as trained by the by the Sr. Community Health Nurse/Coordinator for School Health. Acts as first responder for medical emergencies at assigned school. Reports and refers any abnormal events or findings to school health nurse.

  School Health Services: Provides direct health room services as assigned. Follows routine procedures for measuring and recording height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, respirations, hearing, visual acuity, and head lice screens. Recognizes and reports abnormal findings or changes in student's condition to clinic nurse. Keeps health rooms supplied and equipment clean. Assists in keeping health room free from hazards to student's health and safety.

  Maintains Cumulative health records on students. Maintains a portion of the professional treatment confidential record. Assist the school health nurse with the excel data base as needed for the school health report.

  Greets students and parents; provides information to the general public regarding the services offered by the agency; inputs student demographics and medication orders into the computer system; assist school health nurse in surveillance of immunization, is proficient in the use of Florida Shots, to register, add history and print a 690 on new students, and physical requirements for school entry; answers telephone calls, takes messages and routes information when necessary.

  Outreach services: Assist in whole school head lice screens, in-school immunization program and employee wellness activities.

  Other related Activities: Attends conferences, seminars, and trainings as an active participant for updating knowledge and skills. Serves as a representative of the local health department, on various community projects.

  Correctly completes inputs and submits Timesheets and EARs.

  Performs other duties as assigned.

  Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  Enters, transcribes, records, stores, or maintains information. Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. Knowledge of basic medical terminology/techniques. Identifying the nature of problems. Adjusting actions in relation to others' actions. Listening to what other people are saying and asking questions as appropriate. Actively looking for ways to help people.

  Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.

  The incumbent in this position is responsible for the integrity and confidentiality of data sets under his/her control and may use DOH IT resources to visit Internet sites as needed to perform the duties of this position.
