  We are offering a dynamic internship opportunity for PhD graduate students in Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR), or Pharmacy/Health Economics programs with an HEOR, real-world evidence, (RWE), pharmacoepidemiology, or pharmacovigilance focus. The interns can expect to support data processing and analysis tasks, such as building analytic files, developing documentation, and applying epidemiological, economic, and statistical methods. This is a paid, full-time, 10-week internship, from June 3, 2024 until August 9, 2024. This will be a remote internship. However, it may be possible for the intern to work in the Washington, D.C. office.

  During the internship, interns will work on a dedicated project, tailored to match their interests and experience as well as Mathematica’s current research needs. We welcome, but do not require, interns to propose their own research ideas for a project. Interns will be paired with a mentor, who will provide support on the intern’s project and help the intern gain insight into Mathematica’s Life Sciences and health policy work. The internship may include exposure to internal research projects, client-based work, and may intersect with data science offerings and needs.

  We provide interested interns an opportunity to leverage our data assets, including:

  100% Medicare and Medicaid claims from CMS andMathematica’s Price Transparency Database (based on pricing data disclosed by health plans).Interns will have access to Mathematica’s diverse, multi-disciplinary staff for informational sessions, career advice, and will meet with our CEO during their internship. Further, interns will have access to seminars and knowledge sharing in all areas of our work. After the internship, the interns may have an opportunity to continue to work at Mathematica part time and are encouraged apply for a full-time position.

  Position Requirements:

  PhD student in their second or higher year (but not final year) of Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR), or Pharmacy/Health Economics programs with an HEOR, real-world evidence, (RWE), pharmacoepidemiology, pharmacovigilance focus, or a related program.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.At least two years of experience performing data manipulation; epidemiological, economic, or statistical analyses in Stata, R, SAS, or another widely used software in HEOR.Experience in one or more of the following areas: comparative effectiveness analysis, cost effectiveness analysis, causal inference, observational methods, claims data, RWE, or pharmacovigilance.Ability to take an ambiguous question, propose rigorous methods, use data to draw insights, and convey results and findings to wide audiences.Ability and desire to work independently, learn and contribute to knowledge sharing with the team.Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic team environment, as part of an interdisciplinary team that may be geographically dispersed.Excellent communication skills.This is a paid internship, with an hourly rate of $27 per hour for students in their second year (or later) of a PhD program.
