Basic Job Functions Children’s Education seeks 1 Educator for the GreenSchool. GreenSchool offers cross-disciplinary workshops and tours using plants as a lens for inquiry and phenomena-based science explorations to school groups inside the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory and throughout the Garden grounds. Educators lead programs with the goal of student experiential learning and appreciation of the natural world. Educators organize and maintain program supplies, plants and classroom space.
Additionally, this position supports, through actions and conduct, NYBG’s Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility initiatives and actively helps to build and maintain an inclusive organizational culture throughout the institution.Specific Duties & Responsibilities · Use NYBG curriculum to facilitate workshops and tours for Pre-kindergarten through 8thgrade school groups (all ability levels, including children with learning differences) using inquiry and phenomena-based teaching practices · Participate in a professional learning community of informal science educators to build hands-on, effective practices that support students to: o Explore real world phenomena o Think like scientists o Learn through discussions o Connect to lived experiences · Organize and maintain program supplies, plants and classroom space. · Efficiently manage set-up of teaching supplies each morning, followed by the cleanup, inventory and preparation of materials each afternoon. · Participate in on-going assessment of program facilitation; including reflecting on practice through peer observations and leading programs in other Children’s Education facilities as opportunities arise, experimenting and improving GreenSchool lesson plans that enhance student experience. · Solicit teacher evaluation of education programs.Requirements: · Must have an undergraduate degree with a background and/or demonstrated familiarity with current museum education practices that emphasize student-driven learning experiences. Strong science (ecology, botany, or horticulture), or a self-starter with teaching experience in informal settings preferred. · Excellent written and verbal communication and responsive decision-making skills are required. · Able to work in all weather conditions and traverse long distances. Must be flexible and adaptable in the face of changing schedules, program teaching spaces and time constraints. Must be adept at incorporating unique museum resources in a complex, dynamic and fast paced institutional environment. · Outgoing and welcoming personality; responsible, punctual, professional and motivated. Prior experience and enthusiasm for working with schoolchildren. Must love plants.

March 20-21, May 14th 9am -3pm, June 11 9am – 2pm Tuesday-Friday March 18 through June 7, 2024 9am – 1:30pm
