  Summary The ideal candidate for this position will have experience with of hazards and risk that could impact Region 10, an understanding of mitigation concepts, the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly, and the ability le to assess information based on defined criteria. Responsibilities What will I do in this position if hired? In this position, you will will serve as a senior Grants Management Specialist performing work that involves implementing and managing Hazard Mitigation Assistance (HMA) grant programs and providing related technical assistance and services. The HMA grant programs provide funding for eligible mitigation activities that reduce disaster losses and protect life and property from future disaster damages. Administers Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP), the Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA) Program, and the Pre-Disaster Mitigation (PDM) Program. Typical assignments include: Providing technical assistance regarding Hazard Mitigation Assistance (HMA) grant programs (Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP), the Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA) Program, the Pre-Disaster Mitigation (PDM) Program, the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) program and processes that provide funding for eligible mitigation activities that reduce disaster losses and protect life and property from future disaster damages. Reviewing HMA grant applications for completeness, evaluating awardee eligibility using established financial, administrative, and business procedures. Coordinating review and close-out of HMA grants with appropriate FEMA staff, program offices, and State, Tribal, and local officials. What else do I need to know? Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions. Qualifications The qualification requirements listed below must be met by the closing date of this announcement. To qualify for this position at the GS-12 level, you must possess one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal government, which has equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience may be obtained in the Federal or Private Sector and must demonstrate all of the following: Creating, evaluating, or managing Hazard Mitigation Assistance grants (i.e. Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP), Pre-Disaster Mitigation Grants (PDMG), Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA), Building Resilient Infrastructure Communities (BRIC), etc.), and; Using Hazard Mitigation Assistance program guidance and tools, and; Creating or evaluating cost-benefit analyses.
