　　Job Description

　　The Grid Automation and Control Group at NREL is seeking a graduate intern to perform Multi-timescale Hydropower Plant Modeling in power systems with high penetration of renewables. Hydropower plants can provide low-cost energy to the grid immediately during power imbalance and outage. Utilizing hydropower plants is a promising solution to address the challenge of renewable integration. Accurate multi time scale hydro modeling in planning and operation with consideration of hydrological condition is critical for hydro to provide energy and ancillary services to help integrate renewables.

　　The intern would develop the multi-timescale hydropower plant model and leverage the work to investigate utilize hydropower plant address the challenge associated with integrating renewables. So, the preferred candidate would be passionate about multi-timescale hydropower modeling and address the renewable integration challenges. It is expected that the intern could work closely with NREL researchers and deliver high-impact work.

　　Basic Qualifications

　　Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a Bachelor's, Master's or PhD degree program, or graduated in the past 12 months from an accredited institution. Candidates who have earned a degree may work for a period not to exceed 12 months. Must have a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.

　　Additional Required Qualifications

　　Currently enrolled graduate students in power engineering, electricall engineering, or other relevant areas (Ph.D. students would be preferred).

　　Experience in modeling, design, and analysis of multi-time scale hydropower plants in power systems.

　　Experience in optimization, PSS/E, or PSCAD tools.

　　Solid background in power system optimization, dynamics, and control.

　　Being self-motivated, having good problem-solving capability, and respecting project timeline.

　　Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

　　Annual Salary Range (based on full-time 40 hours per week)

　　Job Profile: Graduate II / Annual Salary Range: $42,700 - $68,300
