  Job Summary

  NiSource is actively seeking a GIS Specialist position to provide GIS application technical support for a data mining project digitizing asset information from linen maps, and placement into the Company’s GIS mapping system. Candidates with backgrounds in GIS application utilization or support, gas pipeline experience, utility records investigation, and GIS editing are encouraged to apply.

  Key Results:

  Value-added support of GIS applications, technology, and tools

  Consistent, standard GIS system, data models, and applications

  Accurate tabular and spatial analysis and reporting

  Effective technical support related to the GIS applications, dependent operational support systems, and related geospatial applications

  Provide support to business unit in identifying and reporting break/fix issues, placing security/access requests and creating Business Applications Support Services Request or IT Service Request tickets on the business unit’s behalf

  Informed and engaged business unit/end users in regards to optimal utilization of supported applications and dependent operational support systems

  Timely, accurate status reporting to management

  Successful collaboration with key stakeholders

  Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  Perform basic data posting, spatial analysis and reporting in response to business unit/end user requests

  Create basic visualizations of spatial data through the use of thematic or special use maps in support of needs

  Support business unit/end users by creating, monitoring and providing supporting information to interaction(s) on Business Applications Support Service Requests and ISM tickets,

  Provide first level of support for issues with supported applications

  Identify complex issues for escalation to other team members, or Business Applications Support Services

  Perform system testing based on formal written test plans following application enhancements, system upgrades, and/or application problem fixes

  Assist in business unit/end-user training on supported applications, in coordination or at direction of Business Applications Support Services

  Motivate self, work independently with appropriate supervision

  Promote a safe work environment by actively participating in all aspects of our employee safety program

  Support a positive work environment for all

  Travel, on a limited basis, when needed

  Perform testing during off-hours testing, when needed

  Keep current with professional and technical developments, and emerging related technologies

  Attend industry/technology conferences and seminars as directed

  Perform other duties as assigned

  Required Qualifications for Position

  College Degree or 2+ years of GIS experience

  Experience with GIS/geospatial related technologies (e.g. GIS, CAD, mobile viewers, etc.)

  Experience with location related technologies (e.g. GPS, geocoding, orthophotography, etc.)

  General knowledge of natural gas policies and procedures

  Ability to use standard suite of Microsoft Office PC applications

  Experience working under tight deadlines

  Experience working independently

  Strong verbal and written skills

  Demonstrated problem analysis and solving

  Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position

  Bachelor’s Degree in GIS or GIS-related field

  GIS Certification (like GISP)

  Natural gas operations, and/or electric operations, and/or customer service support experience

  Knowledge in the public utility regulatory environment

  $58,400.00 - $81,900.00
