Job Description:
General Responsibilities:
As a Geotechnical Staff Engineer with Terracon’s Texas Transportation Team, you’ll be asked to provide engineering and consulting services for a wide variety of rural and urban transportation projects and clients across Texas.
This may include performing and eventually leading geotechnical and pavement-focused field investigations, engineering analysis and design, calculations, and recommendations, and preparing related reports for the services provided; tracking and evaluating project progress and budgets; researching and resolving design and construction issues and providing solutions; and applying sound engineering principles and communicating complex engineering issues and concepts to technical and non-technical clients and project teams.
Services may be provided for existing or proposed projects in the public works and transportation sectors across Texas.
Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
• Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards on all projects, participate in and eventually lead pre-task planning, and report any safety issues or concerns to management.
• Maintain quality standards on all projects.
• Work closely with Professional Engineers to gain project management and engineering experience.
• In general, be a proficient engineering professional responsible for managing and executing small projects of minimal complexity.
• Support and subsequently lead development of the scope of work for routine transportation projects, working up to projects of increasing size and complexity.
• Assist in the preparation of proposals, reports, and other project related documents for small to large projects of varying complexity under the supervision of a Professional Engineer.
• Plan, schedule, conduct, and/or coordinate detailed phases of projects with varying size and complexity under the supervision of a Professional Engineer.
• Conduct, coordinate or supervise field investigations, laboratory testing, and evaluation of respective data.
• Analyze data, perform engineering calculations and analysis, and make design recommendations, adaptations, and modifications for review and consideration under the guidance and supervision of a Professional Engineer.
• Interact directly with client and project team on developing scope of services and communicating project progress.
• May supervise field staff including graduate/field engineers, engineering technicians, exploration teams, laboratory staff and other support personnel for ongoing transportation projects.
• Collaborate with offices across Texas to execute projects and deliver consistent services to our clients and partners.
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
• 0-3 years’ experience.
• Master’s degree in Engineering preferred.
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Engineering Intern (EI) required.
Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
