DESCRIPTION
SUMMARY:Maintains and performs duties at Seitz Park and the East Race Waterway. Works with department to ensure proper care of the park and waterway on both scheduled and unscheduled days. Performs other duties as assigned. Reports to the Plaza Group Leader.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:Part time staff and volunteers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:This list represents the types of duties required by the position. Other duties may be assigned as reasonably expected.
Mows grass, park and ground maintenance including weed eating, edging, blowing off areas.Cleans entire property for trash and debris.Removes leaves on property.Removes snow and applies salt for safety to all applicable areas.Keeps records of completed daily work logs.Communicate with part-time staff regarding work priorities and schedule changes.Maintains clean and safe work areas, tools, and equipment.Be able to communicate with the public as needed to provide excellent customer service.May be required to work heights of 10ft or more on ladders.Maintains a positive attitude and consistent performance.Able to maintain best practices and learn new landscape procedures.Must be able to work nights and weekends as needed.Must be able to work in the waterway.Work with the Downtown Plaza and/or Howard Park team in the winterMust work all special events in that area.Receives direction from the VPA Horticulturist on the maintenance of the landscaping product.NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Two years' experience in ground maintenance and plant care.High school diploma or equivalent education preferred.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES PREFERRED:
Working knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies used in ground maintenance.Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule.Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time, and to perform physical labor.Ability to communicate orally and in writing.Ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public.Ability to work around water and moving head gates.Ability to care for all the plants and new features.CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:Valid Drivers License required.
EQUIPMENT:Riding mower, push mower, weed eater, leaf blower, tractor, tractor attachments, spraying power washer, pickup truck w/snowplow, shovel, broom, rake, ladders, laptop, cell phone, tablet, 4x4 vehicle w/ plow, cordless drill, and various hand tools such as hand pruners, loppers, chainsaw, pole saw.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and the water. The employee infrequently works in high precarious places, with fumes or airborne particles, and with vibration. The noise level is moderate, except when operating power equipment.
