Summary
The Occupational Therapy Assistant in Home Health is responsible for providingoccupational therapy to patients in their homes to restore them to theirfullest physical ability. The Occupational Therapy Assistant performshis/her duties in accordance with policies and procedures and theestablished plan of care.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist, is at all timesresponsible to follow all state specific laws governing the provision ofoccupational therapy in home care, to follow the treatment set only asdefined by theOccupational Therapist; to perform only those procedures that he/she isqualified and trained to perform and to make all recommendations for changesin the plan of care to the supervising Occupational Therapist.Following the plan of care, instructs and aids patients in evidence basedtreatment within the scope of the occupational therapy assistant and accordingto the state laws governing occupational therapy assistants.Observes, records, and reports to the supervising OT, the nursesupervisor, and/or the physician the patient's response to treatment andchanges in the patient's condition. Coordinates care with the other membersof the healthcare team as appropriate.Instructs patient, family, caregiver, and other members of the healthcare team in the areas of therapy within the scope of the occupational therapyassistant.Visits patients within the entire service area of their respective agency andother nearby LHC agencies as needed.According to Plan of Treatment; completes a progress note for each visit andsubmits progress notes per LHC policy.Adheres to LHC Therapy Standards of Practice in provision of service to allpatients.Participates in staff conferences and committees as requested by the agency.Participates in a weekend rotation to provide services for their respectiveagency and other nearby LHC agencies as needed.All other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
License RequirementsCurrent OTA licensure in the state of practiceCurrent CPR certificationCurrent driver's license and vehicle insurance, and access to a dependablevehicle or public transportation
