Weyerhaeuser's North Washington Region has an opening for an operational Forester with our Vail team. This position is based out of our Rainier, Washington office and reports to the Area Manager, with additional accountability to the Region Forester for forestry activities in the area. This is a full-time, exempt position, with salary level dependent on skills and experience.
Key Functions
As an operational Forester, you will be responsible for general forestry requirements, such as site preparation (chemical/mechanical), regeneration, land exams, vegetation control (chemical/mechanical), stocking control, fire protection and contract administration. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Execution of the forestry plan, in compliance with the regional and area harvesting strategy and the annual budget planProject layout, using aerial photos, maps, GIS systems and ground reconnaissanceContract administration; negotiate, prepare, supervise, monitor for compliance, payment managementDevelop and track budgets and key silvicultural metricsForecast silvicultural projects and expendituresAdvocate, model and inspect for safe work practicesFertilizer and forest inventory sampling project workAct as company representative with landowners, government agencies, and community representativesEnsure compliance with state and federal safety statues, environmental requirements and Weyerhaeuser resource and stewardship goalsCollaborate with others on the area and region teams to ensure alignment with goals and objectivesFire preparedness, firefighting and other protection functions as required
Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Forestry or related field with at least 2 years of experienceORequivalent combination of education and experience (at least 5 years)
Willing to abide by established safety standardsGeneral knowledge of state and federal forest practice rules/statutesTeam building, communication, analytical and critical thinking skillsProficiency in use of personal computers and related software applications such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Geographical Information SystemsAbility to develop, prioritize, plan, implement and manage activities to meet targets and deadlines with occasional extended work periods and weekend workExperience in project management and contract administrationWilling to work independently in an office setting and travel to destinations in the woodsWilling and able to spend a minimum of 50% of work time in the field, working on steep or broke ground covered with slash and brush, and in all weather conditionsValid driver’s license is required, as work involves driving company vehicles on rough roads (25,000 miles per year)Compensation:This role is eligible for our annual merit-increase program, and we are targeting a salary range of $66,703 - $100,055 based on your level of skills, qualifications and experience. You will also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program, which offers a cash bonus targeting 5% of base pay. Potential plan funding may range from zero to two times that target.

Retirement:Employees are able to enroll in our company’s 401k plan, which includes a paid company match in addition to our annual contribution equal to 5% of your base salary.
Paid Time Off or Vacation:We provide eligible employees who are scheduled to work 25 hours or more per week with 3-weeks of paid vacation to use during your first year of employment. In addition, after being employed for six months, eligible employees begin to accrue vacation for future use. We also recognize eleven paid holidays per year, providing a total of 88 holiday hours
