Definition
Under direction, is responsible for performing advanced level fiscal and accounting support functions; performs related duties as required.
Examples of Work

Assists in the preparation of budget estimates and quarterly budget reviews; assists in the completion of all grant fiscal reporting requirements such as time studies and quarterly reports;
Assists in the preparation and proofing of various documents such as legislation, contracts, proposals, and bid solicitation packages;
Leads or participates on special projects of a fiscal or related nature;
Reviews records, cash payment stubs and computer-generated reports for potential problems;
Utilizes an automated accounting system to perform various accounting, purchasing and other fiscal related transactions;
Checks balances of billings and revenues by comparing money received with amounts registered, balancing books when errors are detected;
Prepares various complex accounting, financial and statistical reports using spreadsheets, databases, and word processing software applications;
Prepares, tracks, and monitors the status and compliance of contracts or professional service agreements;
Researches damage or miscellaneous claims to determine appropriate party to be billed; prepares and sends bills;
Assists in the resolution of fiscal problems by performing qualitative reviews;
Contacts insurance companies, hospitals, doctor's offices, patients and family or care givers of patients in order to obtain information necessary to settle fees;
Determines fees owed by patients using a sliding fee scale based on household income and other criteria; prepares and sends bills to be sent to patient's address; meets with patients to establish payment plan if necessary;
Recommends adjustments and write-offs on accounts considered uncollectible;
Prepares journal entries and expenditure corrections;
Collects and compiles monthly mileage sheets and prepares summary report to be sent to the Auditor's Office for reimbursement;
Reconciles agency's fiscal records with the City's automated accounting system;
Codes and enters all account payables and receivables into an automated system using fund, index and object level codes;
May have lead or supervisory responsibilities.
Minimum Qualifications
Completion of the twelfth school grade and four (4) years of general office experience, which included some fiscal or financial record keeping, bookkeeping, purchasing, or procurement. Substitution(s): A certificate of high school equivalence (GED) will be accepted in lieu of a high school diploma. College training in accounting or business may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis (30 semester/45 quarter credit hours equals one (1) year).

The names of the applicants passing this administration of this exam will be used to create aNEW, OPEN COMPETITIVE, eligible list for this classification. If you are interested in having your name included on the new eligible list, you will need to apply for this exam within the filing period and successfully complete all phases of the testing process. The examination process will consist of a computerized exam weighted 100% covering Time Sharing, Applying Policies, Mathematics, Bank Reconciliation, Petty Cash, Outlook, Excel, and Word (2010).
The exam is expected to be administered in late February, early March. Approved applicants will be notified by mail/email of their scheduled test date and time.
All applicants must complete all phases of the testing process in order to receive a final score. The names of all candidates who pass this examination will remain on the eligible list for two years, unless the eligible list is replaced prior to or extended beyond the two years. If a candidate's name is certified and the candidate is to be considered for employment, the hiring process will include one or more interviews, a criminal background check, and a pre-employment drug test.
