Monday-Thursday from 8a-5p and Fridays from 8a-2:30p
Job Summary :
The Financial Counselor interviews patients who are uninsured/underinsured to determine which agencies will provide financial assistance with the patient's hospital and medical bills. The Financial Counselor helps the patient through the application process and follows up to make sure that the patient completes the application in a timely manner. The Financial Counselor must be knowledgeable and up to date with all guidelines and regulations governing all sponsorship agencies.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High School diploma or GED required. College degree preferred.
Experience: At least 2 years’ experience in a financial setting and/or health care setting required. (Medical terminology and Medicaid/Medicare knowledge preferred). Excellent customer service skills.

Knowledge/Skills:
Must have knowledge of policies, procedures and guidelines of all state and county agencies providing financial sponsorship to patients. Typing speed of 45-50 wpm preferred; basic computer skills required; PC and Windows experience preferred; good organizational skills and the ability to effectively handle multiple priorities and deadlines; strong math skills; excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills to effectively deal with customers and staff; ability to diplomatically and respectfully deal with customers (both in person and via telephone)
Ability to elicit and evaluate information, sometimes of a highly personal and sensitive nature from a broad spectrum of individuals and agencies; maintain confidentiality; read, interpret and apply regulatory policies and procedures; work with minimal supervision and with extensive detail; prepare written correspondence using correct grammar, punctuation and spelling; coordinate functions and work cooperatively with others.
Other: Requires use of General Office Equipment including, but not limited to: Computer, calculator, fax machine, printer, scanner, credit card devices, copier, and headset.
Work Demands/Environment :
Frequent sitting. Frequently requires long periods of working at a computer. Intermittent walking, standing, stooping, bending. May require lifting or moving items up to 25 lbs. Frequent use of finger/hand dexterity. Constant talking or hearing. Corrected hearing and vision to normal range. No exposure to blood, body fluids or tissue. Possible exposure to infectious materials, communicable diseases and/or other conditions common to a healthcare environment. Normal office environment. Requires work under stressful conditions, deadlines, and/or irregular hours. Ability to read and comprehend. Travel may be required.
