About FEA Simulation Engineer IV

FEA Simulation Engineer IV Location: Redmond (hybrid) Duration: 12 months Description: We are seeking an experienced FEA Simulation Engineer with a strong background in modeling, analyzing, and developing solutions for drop/shock structural problems, and steady state and transient thermal problems. Our ideal candidate approaches complex problems with an analytical mindset firmly rooted in engineering first principles. They are unafraid to challenge underlying assumptions and are dedicated to delivering solutions in addition to insight. We want someone who works well in a highly collaborative, cross-functional environment, can drive clarity from ambiguity, communicates complex concepts clearly, and is unafraid to tackle new challenges. Responsibilities : Deliver simulation and analysis-based solutions to improve product response to mechanical (drop/shock) and thermal loads. Collaborate with designers, engineers, and other cross-functional partners to identify risks, strategically create simulations, plan and conduct validation testing, and deliver objective, data-driven engineering guidance and solutions. Contribute to the creation of product requirements and technical specifications. Provide data and technical guidance for product architecture development efforts. Organize and lead thermal design reviews, solution brainstorms, and implementation efforts. Drive root cause efforts and design of experiments to resolve problems. Present results in a form actionable by cross-functional team members and leadership. Advance team capabilities using new methods, materials, technologies, and software tools. Minimum Qualifications : Masters degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related field. Knowledge of engineering and physics-based principles related to shock, vibrations, strength of materials, heat transfer, and failure analysis. Knowledge of implicit and explicit structural and thermal finite element analysis. Experience using a data-driven approach to analyze problems and deliver robust, optimized solutions. Understanding of the mechanical and thermal properties for a broad a Telecommunications and Media company of materials, for example glass, ceramic, polymers, and adhesives. 5+ years experience using commercial FEA simulation tools preferably Ansys and/or Abaqus. 3+ years experience using 3D CAD tools preferably SolidWorks and/or NX. 3+ years experience architecting solutions mitigating drop/shock and thermal problems. Preferred Qualifications : Experience with Structural Thermal Optical Performance (STOP) analysis. PhD or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related field. Experience delivering analysis and developing solutions for consumer products. Top 3 must-have hard skills: COMSOL, ABAQUS, ANSYS experience (one of the 3 ) simulation engineer or specialist some Optics experience Good to Have Skills: Strong CAD modeling skills- Solid Works, NX, 3D modeling more optics experience the better Story Behind The Need – Business Group & Key Projects: Growth in the department - AR Systems Architecture group Compelling Story & Candidate Value Proposition: Able to work with a wide variety of cutting edge technologies and some brand new problems- system integration for AR devices Capable peers in a new tech area Typical Day In The Role: Output- building a simulation model in software- COMSOL or Ansys- Simulation Designer Talking to scientists and Engineers- gathering input, build simulation model, run model, and then presenting to group How Will Performance Be Measured: How well they are able to gather inputs, rigor and speed in putting together models, and technical understanding of what systems really matter gather appropriate information and give appropriate analysis - figure out what Data really matters. A simulation engineer to work on structural and thermal simulations that support the MIDAS project. Overview & Context [Internal] : The person filling this CW role will work on structural and thermal finite element simulations, both to support the development of the MIDAS project. This requires understanding of shock/vibrations, failure analysis, heat transfer, and strength of materials. This also requires expertise in using ANSYS and/or Abaqus. Candidate should also be experienced in implicit and explicit finite element methods. Familiarity with optics and optical simulations is a plus. Targeted Background [Internal] : We can find candidates with this simulation expertise in the following companies, but it may be harder to bring them on since this is a CW position Big Companies In Our Industry Who Have Similar Roles For Their Products: Apple, Microsoft, Google, Amazon. Finite element software companies that have good structural analysis capabilities: Ansys, Abaqus, COMSOL. Engineering consulting companies that work on structural/thermal problems: Cambridge Consultants, PADT, Veryst Engineering, Thornton Tomasetti, Simutech, Ozen Engineering, Exponent. We (Eugene, Nagi, others) have a network of simulation experts in different companies that we will reach out to.
