FARMWORKERS AND LABORERS:
Manually plant, cultivate, and harvest fruits, horticulturalspecialties, and field crops. Use hand tools, such as shovels, trowels,hoes, tampers, pruning hooks, shears, and knives. Duties may includetilling soil and applying fertilizers; transplanting, weeding, thinning,or pruning crops; applying pesticides; or cleaning, grading, sorting,packing, and loading harvested products. May construct trellises, repairfences and farm buildings, or participate in irrigation activities.PLANTING TREES: Planting trees is a manual process in establishing anorchard to produce high quality fruit. Planting tasks are but notlimited to: 1)Plant Trees. 2)Clearing property. 3)Installing Trellis.4)Installing Irrigation System. 5)Spreading composted materials.6)Planting may be performed from a mechanized platform and/or from theground This job require 3 months of tree fruit experience. 4e) Must beable to lift and/or load 60lbs. 4g) Work may take place whentemperatures are below freezing and above 100 degrees Fahrenheit. 4h)May require extensive pulling and/or pushing of tools, wheelbarrows,fruit containers, etc. 4i) May require worker to sit and/or walk forextensive periods of time while sorting, picking, examining, weeding,transporting, pruning, etc. 4j) Workers will be required to stoop and/orbend over while performing farm labor such as weeding, irrigating,pruning, picking, removing debris, etc. 4k) There will be repetitivemovements while performing most of the farm labor duties, for examplepicking, sorting, pruning, shoveling, weeding, etc. TRAINING TREES:Perform manual horticultural tasks. Training is a manual process inwhich the fruit tree is manipulated to increase yield and/or quality.Some examples of training tasks are but not limited to: 1)Tying, taping,or clipping apple limbs to wires. 2)Tying up or down apple limbs.3)Training and limb positioning of apple trees. 4)Shoot thinning, suckerremoval, cluster thinning, shoot positioning, hedging, or leaf removal.5)Propping and supporting apple trees. 6)Possess the ability to pick up,handle a 10 ft. or 12 ft. orchard ladder weighing 40 pounds. 7)Trainingmay be performed from a motorized platform and/or from the ground orladder. PRUNING TREES: Perform manual horticultural tasks. Pruningnumerous varieties of apple, pear, and cherry trees according toestablished company procedures based on the difference in the treatmentof different varieties. Work will be performed on trees for long periodsof time using a variety of pruning equipment and techniques. Someexamples of pruning tasks are but not limited to: 1)Using hand shears,hand loppers, hand saws. 2)Possess the ability to pick up, handle a 10ft. or 12 ft. orchard ladder weighing 40 pounds. 3)Pruning may be donefrom the ground or a ladder up to 12 feet in height or from a motorizedplatform. 4)The Worker may be required to selectively prune only treesof a certain size and color as instructed by the crew supervisor.5)Possess or acquire pruning skills in order to identify and removestubs or broken branches, downward-growing branches, branches which rubagainst each other, shaded interior branches, dead wood andshoots/suckers. 6)Ability to use hand pruning saws, clippers, andmechanized equipment in pruning activities. THINNING FRUIT: Performmanual horticultural tasks. Thinning is a manual process used to controlthe size and quality of grown fruit. Some examples of thinning tasks arebut not limited to: 1)Remove, in some cases not limited to the smallestfruit blossom, bud and/or identifiable fruit from within a cluster ofother fr its. 2)Identify and remove fruit that is misshapen, damagedand/or with other quality problems as directed by supervisors. 3)Ensureproper fruit load on tree. 4)Use scissors like clippers. 5)Possess theability to pick up, handle a 10 ft. or 12 ft. orchard ladder weighing 40pounds. 6)Performed from a motorized platform and/or from the ground ora ladder. APPLE / PEAR HARVEST: Perform manual horticultural tasks.Harvest agricultural products.
Some examples of harvesting tasks are but not limited to: 1)Hand harvestapples/pears 2)Performed from a motorized platform and/or from theground or a ladder.3)Attach harness, bucket, or bag. 4)Pick low hangingfruit while standing on the ground. 5)Pick higher branches whilestanding on a ladder or mechanized platform. 6)Pick according to grade,color, and size. 7)Grasp fruit with your hands and remove it from thetree in a motion so as not to harm adjacent buds on the tree branches.8)Carry harness, bucket, or bag of up to 60 lbs. 9)Place fruit intowooden or plastic bins, 4\'x4\'x3\' which hold approximately 25 bushelsof fruit. 10)Handle fruit carefully and do not bruise or damage fruitwhen it is placed in the bin. 11)Examine harvested fruit in bins andsort out any fruit not meeting the grade, color, and sizespecifications.
12)Care must always be exercised to prevent bruising fruit or breakingbranches. 13)Able to pick up, handle a 10 ft. or 12 ft. orchard ladderweighing up to 40 pounds. 14)Harvest preparation includes spreadingliners in bins, rolling bins into blocks by hand. 15
