This covers row crops including sugar beets, alfalfa seed, mint, seedcorn, and wheat.
Hand Lines:
1.Connect pipes
2.Check the alignment of pipe and adjust for proper water distribution
3.Attach lines to water supply
4.Turn on pump
5.Turn valves to start flow of water
6.Disassemble lines and carry pipes across fields at specified intervals
7.Move pipes through freshly irrigated crop and/or plowed fields wheremud may be deep at times
8.Lift and carry pipe sections weighing approximately 60 pounds on asustained basis
Flood Irrigation
1.Lift gate inside of flooded irrigation ditch/pipe permitting water toflow into bordered section of field
2.Shovel and pack dirt in low spots of embankment of cut trenches inhigh areas to direct water flow
3.Close gates in ditch/pipe when bordered section is flooded
4.Open gate or connect pipe to underground pipe system that releaseswater flow into reservoir or ditch
5.Siphon water from flooded reservoir or ditch to channel water intodesignated areas
6.Shovel or hoe soil to clear ditches/furrows and build embankments toappropriately channel water
7.Mix and apply proper solutions to fill holes/cracks in pipes, ditches,and spillways, and make minor repairs to metal, concrete, and woodenframeworks in pipe and ditch valves and gates.
Wheel Lines
1.Start gasoline engines and operate controls to move lines acrossfields at specified intervals
2.Hook up wheel lines to water supply
3.Move wheel lines when needed
4.Drain wheel lines after shutting off water supply and disconnect hose.
5.Fix and repair broken wheel lines so that they are in an operationalmanner
6.Fix and repair any water leaks on wheel lines so that they are in anoperational manner.
The anticipated hours listed represent the normal work schedule. Due tothe nature of these crops, weather, and the requirement to send crops tocustomers when needed, it is the prevailing practice to work more ordifferent hours than those listed. A worker may be offered more than thespecified hours of work; however, the worker will not be required towork for more than the number of hours specified in the job order, or onthe workers Sabbath or Federal holidays. Saturday work may be required.
Workday start times vary depending on the weather. depending on the timeof year, hours of daylight, and production requirements. There may beperiods when little or no work will be available due to weather, time ofyear, and the requirements of the cropping or growing season. Workersmust be able to work varying shifts as required by the season and workperformed. Workers are notified of any change in the start times. Workmay be performed during rain, light snow, cold, freezing temperaturesand/or in high humidity and in temperatures over a 100 degrees F. Workermay be required to work in fields when crops are wet with dew/rain andshould have suitable clothing for variable weather conditions.
Workers must possess requisite physical strength and endurance to repeatthe harvest process throughout the workday. Workers must work at asustained, vigorous pace and make bona-fide efforts to work efficientlyand consistently that are reasonable under the climatic and all otherworking conditions.
Workers may never ride on agricultural equipment not designed for workrelated riding purposes or any other non-passenger intended equipmentunless instructed and authorized by the employer or supervisor to do so.
Workers with valid drivers licenses and that are insurable may transportworkers, equipment, supplies or crop.
All work-related injuries must be immediately reported to the crewleader, foreman, or supervisor.
Employer-paid d ug test may be required if a worker has an accident atwork.
Full Growing Season Commitment: The job offered requires that the workerbe available for work every day that work is available for the fullperiod of employment. The worker agrees to be available for work andperform the assigned work for the assigned employer whenever work isavailable through the full period of employment.
Training: There will be a demonstration period to familiarize workerswith job specification and to demonstrate proper harvest methods andother crop specific issues such as particular grading, sizing orequipment operation.
Pivot Irrigation
1. Push on switch that activates circle sprinkler system
2. Turn on/off pivots
3. Learn and master operating a pivot
4. If a pivot is stuck, get it unstuck and in operating condition
5. Roll up/unroll pivot hoses
6. Unplug plugged up nozzles
7. Replace broken nozzles
8. Maintain operation of a pivot at optimum level
Drip Irrigation
Workers will lay drip tape and remove drip tape in fields during thegrowing season. They will inspect, monitor, and repair drip systemdaily.
Other Irrigation Duties
1.Remove pipes/wheel lines from storage and lay out/place inpredetermined patterns in fields
2.Lubricate, adjust, repair, and replace parts such as sprinkler headsanddrive chains using hand tools
3.Observe revolving sprinklers and adjust to ensure proper operation and
