Worker will be required to perform a variety of duties related to theproduction of wheat, corn, alfalfa seed, mint, onions, radish seed, andgrapes. The majority of the work activities during the overall contractperiod, however, will be related to general farm work/irrigation/cropproduction.
General Farm Work will include the following responsibilities: maintain,drive, attach and operate farm implements/tractors/equipment to tillsoil, plant, cultivate, fertilize, and harvest crops; make minormechanical adjustments and repairs on farm machinery; may mix and/orspray chemicals (according to appropriate restrictive use laws, when/ifapplicable); remove undesirable and excess growth from crops or farmgrounds; remove rocks from field; paint/repair/maintain farm structures;maintain/repair fencing; perform general clean-up of farm areas; operatevehicle, motor bike or all-terrain vehicle in the course of performingduties; transport crops to market; plant onions by walking behindtractors to observe planter (unclog planter if necessary); weed onionsusing hand tools to remove weeds from fields; stack produce on pallets;place produce in buckets; lift and stack produce boxes weighing 50pounds on a sustained basis; pick or cut crop from plant, soil, stem, orroot; even out rows for harvest; gather bagged crops from field andtransfer into bins; remove unwanted debris from binning line;drive/operate equipment to stack/ organize bins at the storage; preparecrops for shipment; harvest, sort, and gather crop by hand;drive/operate equipment to stack/ organize bins at the onion storage;sort produce according to grade, color and size; discarddiseased/rotting/inferior product and
foreign matter; clean up around conveyors and worksite; place produce incontainers or on designated conveyors; repair and load onion bins; trimand cut overgrowth; fix, install, remove trellises and wire;plant/remove plants; trap gofers; drive, load/unload farm trucks and Agexempt, non CDL semi/10-wheel trucks and Ag exempt, non CDL 2 or 3 axletrucks ; backup trucks in tight maneuvering condition; climb in and outof tall trucks and various truck beds and or trailers several times aday; operate tractors/farm trucks to load/unload products; work withaugers, gas motors, generators and electrical cords; watch gauges,dials, or other indicators to make sure machine is working properly;adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions; keep adaily log of products and vehicle service; keep trucks in working orderby performing small repairs and conducting daily general maintenanceduties on mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment; report truckproblems to farm mechanic; workers possessing the proper licensure maybe asked to transport other farm workers.
Irrigation duties will include the following: connect pipes; checkalignment of pipe and adjust for proper water distribution; attach linesto water supply; turn on pump; turn valves to start flow of water;disassemble lines and carry pipes across fields at specified intervals;move pipes through freshly irrigated crops and/or plowed fields wheremud may be deep at times; lift and carry pipe sections weighingapproximately 40 pounds on a sustained basis; lift gate in side offlooded irrigation ditch/pipe permitting water to flow into borderedsection of field; shovel and pack dirt in low spots of embankment or cuttrenches in high areas to direct water flow; close gate in ditch/pipewhen bo dered section is flooded; open gate or connect pipe tounderground pipe system that releases water flow into reservoir orditch; siphon water from flooded reservoir or ditch to channel waterinto designated areas; shovel or hoe soil to clear ditches/furrows andbuild embankments to appropriately channel water; mix and apply propersolutions to fill holes/cracks in pipes, ditches, and spillways, andmake minor repairs to metal, concrete, and wooden frameworks in pipe andditch valves and gates; remove pipes/wheel lines from storage and layout/place in predetermined patterns in fields; lubricate, adjust,repair, and replace parts such as sprinkler heads and drive chains usinghand tools; observe revolving sprinklers and adjust to ensure properoperation and uniform distribution of water; disassemble, service andstore pipes/mainlines/wheel lines after irrigation season; move and laydrip irrigation equipment in fields; maintain and repair dripirrigation; flush drip irrigation lines; remove drip irrigation andlayflat from fields prior to harvest; walk behind tractor to ensurelayflat spools correctly when removing from field.
Instruction, training, and general supervision will be provided by thefarm operator or a designated employee. However, the worker must performrequired duties without close supervision and listen to, understand, andfollow simple instructions of the employer or supervisor.
