Applicants hired must be able to obtain avalid drivers license as driving on public roads maybe required. To meetminimum acceptable performance standards when irrigating, the workermust, after a 10-day conditioning period, move an average of at least 4840-foot sections of 3-inch pipe or 44 40-foot sections of 4-inch pipeper hour under normal working conditions.
Worker will be required to perform a variety of duties related to theproduction of wheat, hay, corn and seed onions. The majority of the workactivities during the overall contract period, however, will be relatedto general farm work/irrigation/crop production. General Farm Work willinclude the following responsibilities: remove undesirable and excessgrowth from crops or farm grounds; remove rocks from field;paint/repair/maintain farm structures; maintain/repair fencing; performgeneral clean up of farm areas; operate motor bike or all-terrainvehicle in the course of performing duties; drive, load/unload farmtrucks; workers possessing the proper licensure may be asked totransport other farm workers.
Irrigation duties will include the following:
Hand lines: connect pipes; check alignment of pipe and adjust for properwater distribution; attach lines to water supply; turn valves to startflow of water; disassemble lines and carry pipes across fields atspecified intervals; move pipes through freshly irrigated crops and/orplowed fields where mud may be deep at times; lift and carry pipesections
weighing approximately 40 pounds on a sustained basis.
Other Irrigation Duties: occasionally operate farm machinery todistribute irrigation equipment; remove pipes/wheel lines from storageand lay out/place in predetermined patterns in fields; lubricate,adjust, repair and replace parts such as sprinkler heads and drivechains using hand tools; observe revolving sprinklers and adjust toensure proper operation and uniform distribution of water; disassemble,service and store pipes/mainlines/wheel lines after irrigation season.
Instruction, training, and general supervision will be provided by thefarm operator or a designated employee. However, the worker must performrequired duties without close supervision and listen to, understand, andfollow simple instructions of the employer or supervisor. The workerwill be required to return worn out tools, supplies, and equipmentbefore new ones will be provided. Most duties are performed out of doorsand entail exposure to heat, cold, dust, rain, and other environmentalconditions common in fields, including mosquitoes during certainseasons. The worker must crouch, bend, and lift and carry items weighingup to 100 pounds in the course of performing required activities. Jobduties may require a split shift, such as 6:00 to 11:00 AM and 2:00 to5:00 PM. Work hours may vary and there may be periods when little or nowork will be available due to weather, time of year, and therequirements of the cropping program. The worker may be offered workseven days a week, as farm work must be performed seven days a week. Theworker will be required, however, to work the minimum number of hoursindicated in the job listing. The worker may be offered more than thespecified hours per day but is only required to work the hoursspecified. The worker may be requested, but will not be required, towork on his/her Sabbath and/or on Federal holidays.
