Position: Fairgrounds General LaborerSeasonal Full Time - April - SeptemberScheduled hours will be discussed during interview processDepartment: FairgroundsPay Grade Range: Starting rate $15.00/hour, depending on experienceClosing Date: Open Until FilledThe Fairgrounds Department preserves, enhances, and develops the Fairgrounds for present and future generations through comprehensive planning, capital acquisition, facility development and event production.Job Summary: The Fairgrounds General Grounds Laborer performs a variety of duties to ensure that the grounds of houses, businesses, and parks are attractive, orderly, and healthy in order to provide a pleasant outdoor environment.Essential Functions (Major Duties or Responsibilities): These duties are the essential functions and are not all-inclusive of all duties that the incumbent performs.? Building maintenance support including painting, light construction and building upkeep.? Light grounds keeping activities to include, raking, collecting garbage, removal of rocks and debris, and other activities supporting keeping grounds in an attractive condition.? Cleaning bathrooms and other building facilities.? Other minor activities on an occasional basis as directed by the Fairgrounds Manager.? Answers inquiries, providing information based on knowledge of County Fair programs and activities.Physical Demands and Working Conditions: The demands and conditions described here are representative of those the employee must meet to perform the essential functions of the job.? The position may require strenuous walking, bending, kneeling and standing for extended periods; lifting and transporting equipment weighing up to 40 pounds; and may have exposure to extreme heat, dust, power tools, and other hazards associated with an active maintenance site.? May be required to paint overhead for extended periods of time; work various temperatures and outdoor exposures; and safely climb up and down ladders and scaffoldings.? Almost all of the work takes place around Fairgrounds Complex and grounds.? The noise level of the office is usually moderate.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:You may be required to possess the ability to effectively meet and deal with the public; communicate effectively verbally and in writing; handle stressful situations; work extra hours as required; establish and maintain effective working relationships with management, employees, clients, and the public; understand program objectives in relation to departmental goals and procedures; organize and prioritize work assignments. Requires basic knowledge and ability to learn skills in maintenance and groundskeeping.Education and Experience:Graduation from high school or GED equivalent required.
