Overview
This position is responsible for advancing Chevron’s reputation and visibility through stakeholder engagement with media outlets, industry associations, external business partners, and industry observers/commentators . Successful candidate is currently located in London, UK.
As the External Affairs Advisor for Africa, you will:
Manage issues and crises that potentially impact corporate reputation.
Support communications efforts of business units: Build fluency with the business and operations to support efforts by business units to tell their stories in alignment with the enterprise narrative and priorities.
Protect the reputation of the company: In providing issues and crisis management, the advisor will work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment driven by media deadlines and highly complex and sensitive business issues.
Align messaging across teams and engage with media to proactively tell the story of the company: Draw on media experience to connect the interests of journalists with the narrative-driven communications initiatives of the company.
Build relationships among reporters covering both industry and the regions where Chevron operates.
Grow capabilities of executives for public engagement: Provide media training for senior leaders and prepare messaging ahead of external engagement – including media interviews and conference appearances.
Requirements
10+ Years of experience in external affairs, media relations, corporate affairs, or related field.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
Demonstrated experience in media relations.
Proven ability to work across teams, build relationships effectively and manage multiple workstreams across different functional teams.
Effective writer and communicator – experience to clearly and concisely communicate internally and externally with the ability to engage media.
Demonstrated experience in communicating effectively across a complex corporate structure strongly preferred.
Experience in using social media and digital platforms.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree or equivalent.
Experience in the energy industry
