About Executive Staff Assistant

  Summary The Executive Staff Assistant provides direct support to the Criminal Division's leadership cadre, including the Assistant Attorney General, Principal Assistant Attorney General, and Chief of Staff. The Office of the Assistant Attorney General is the leadership office for the Criminal Division which oversees the development, enforcement, and supervision of the application of all federal criminal laws except those specifically assigned to other divisions. Responsibilities As the Executive Staff Assistant in the Office of the Assistant Attorney General, you will: Exercise control over the Assistant Attorney General (AAG), Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General (PDAAG), and Chief of Staff's (COS) calendar, with complete authority for time commitments. Act as liaison between the AAG and other officials of the Department, Government agencies, and private concerns. Prepare responses concerning various program and policy inquiries by conducting fact finding and research as needed, consulting with appropriate top-level officials in and outside of the Criminal Division, and presenting recommendations for consideration of senior managers. Receive all correspondence for senior management and navigate the various subordinate levels of hierarchy and differing technical functions to determine who should handle complicated inquiries. Review materials for compliance with established regulations and style guidelines, such as timeframes for requested responses, or required regulatory references. Ensure that routine responses to public inquiries on standard matters are appropriate and in compliance with agency preferences and policies. Create and maintain an AAG, PDAAG, COS Desk Guide on all daily, weekly, monthly practice. Represent senior managers on matters affecting assigned organizational and program responsibilities. Work independently and communicate with the Administrative Officer on staff coverage requirements. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications To qualify at the GS-09 grade level, applicants must have one of the following: Two (2) full years of graduate education or a master's degree, LLB, J.D., or equivalent degree that demonstrates the competencies needed to do the work of the position; OR At least one (1) year of specialized experience at, or equivalent to, the GS-07 grade level. Examples of specialized experience include: making authoritative decisions managing calendars for senior management; preparing recommendations to resolve issues related to bottlenecks and inefficient office processes; arranging conferences, seminars, and meetings with employees and external stakeholders, and; preparing correspondence for senior management with careful adherence to organizational standards; OR A combination of education and experience. To qualify at the GS-11 grade level, applicants must have one of the following: Three (3) years of progressively higher level graduate education, leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; OR At least one (1) year of specialized experience at, or equivalent to, the GS-09 federal grade level. Examples of specialized experience include: making authoritative decisions managing calendars for senior management; developing new or modified work methods, records and files, management processes, and procedures for administering support functions; arranging conferences, seminars, and meetings with employees and external stakeholders, and; preparing correspondence for senior management with careful adherence to organizational standards; OR A combination of education and experience. Combination of Education and Experience - Your current education completed is credited as a percentage of the education required for the grade level and your current experience is credited as a percentage of the total experience required for the grade level. The two percentages are added and must equal 100% in order to qualify for the desired grade level. All academic degrees and coursework must be completed at a college or university that has obtained accreditation or pre-accreditation status from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Foreign Education: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. All documentation must be in English or include an English translation. Time-in-Grade: Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements for consideration by the closing date of this announcement. Education There is no education requirement for this position.
