  REPORTS TO:         Chief Operating Officer   

  SUPERVISES:           Department Managers and Concierge Team

  The Overlook has a Vision to expand beyond The Overlook’s singular use as a Retirement Community into a multi-generational, mixed-use, Campus. Overlook’s Master Planning Process, which launched in 2022, will incorporate a more robust view of what senior living can and should be. We envision a "community within a community" attracting chefs, artisans, retailers, educators and a variety of wellness and enrichment options.  The Executive Director will play a key role, serving as a core member of the Master Planning Team, helping us design and reposition The Overlook’s flagship Campus in Charlton, MA. The Overlook’s bucolic setting on 450 acres of beautiful New England countryside, 16 miles of nature trails, a dog park, and a wealth of amenities offer limitless possibilities in helping us reposition our Campus.

  In addition, The Executive Director of Independent Living will provide leadership for the Independent Living Community; achieve organization-wide objectives for quality services; achieving revenue and expense targets; resident and community public relations; employee development; serve as a resource in support of organizational growth.

    POSITION DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  Oversee, plan, develop, implement, and direct the day-to-day functions and operations of the Independent Living Community.

  Provide a forward-thinking, thoughtful, and creative approach, with a focus on mixed use and multi-generational living, that includes but is not exclusive to seniors and layers in cutting-edge industry concepts surrounding senior living, technology, health, and wellness.

  Oversee and direct department managers who have campus-wide operational responsibilities and collaborate with the Health Center Administrator on campus wide initiatives.

  Serve as a member of the Senior Leadership Team

  Assist in the development design and implementation of the strategic planning process.

  Collaborate with People & Culture to ensure that team members’ performance concerns are addressed consistently and in compliance with organization policies and state/federal laws.

  Conduct meetings with department managers to communicate information, problem solve and promote team building.

  Prepare, monitor, and administer Independent Living operating and capital budgets.

  Participate in the development and implementation of the Independent Living marketing plan along with third party marketing consulting firm and maintain targeted occupancy levels.

  Support efforts to promote Independent Living, as well as Masonic Health Systems’ lines of business to the greater community and referral sources.

  Strive to attain excellence in resident satisfaction by requesting resident feedback, promoting interactive problem solving, implementing resident suggestions.

  Oversee proper physical property maintenance within the Independent Living community and ensure that it is a safe and secure environment for residents, guests, and team members.

  Ensure that event/program planning is coordinated through the BEO (Banquet Event Order) committee.

  Consistently represent the organization with a positive and professional image.

  Other duties as assigned.

  POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  Bachelor’s Degree required

  Master’s Degree preferred

  Ten plus years functioning in progressive leadership roles in either senior living or hospitality industries.

  Current MA Nursing Home Administrator license preferred.

  Knowledge, understanding and demonstrated ability to identify and address gerontology concerns.

  Excellent judgment and problem-solving skills.

  Strong oral and written communication and speaking skills.

  Excellent communication and listening skills, resourceful and organized.

  COMMUNITY OVERVIEW:

  The Overlook is a non-profit organization operating since 1911 and offering a full continuum of care and services for older adults in MA. The organization embraces its rich history and heritage, owning and managing 218 Independent Living Apartment Homes and Cottages, 28 Enhanced Care Private Suites, a 14- Suite Assisted Living Memory Care neighborhood, 27-unit Short-term Post-Acute Rehabilitation, 112-bed Long Term Care Skilled Nursing, as well as Home Health, Hospice, Palliative Care, Private Duty and Care Management divisions.

  The Overlook and its 3 subsidiaries are based in Charlton, MA, with satellite home health and hospice offices across the state. The organization employs approximately 600 talented and compassionate Team Members and serves 1,500+ Residents/Patients.

  The Overlook has a Vision to design a mixed-use Community beyond its singular function as a Retirement Community, a pedestrian-friendly, walkable "Village Center" environment, with select retailers, restaurants featuring fresh, locally sourced food, a brewery, a large banquet, and events center, enriching programs, health and wellness-focused on mind, body and spirit, and more.
