Job ID12182LocationCase Main CampusFull/Part TimeFull-TimeRegular/TemporaryRegularJob DescriptionPOSITION OBJECTIVEThe Executive Director of Research Operations in collaboration with the Office of Research Administration leadership leads, identifies, develops and implements policies and procedures related to sponsored projects ensuring compliance with all federal, state, foundation and industry sponsor requirements for the university with a focus on the School of Engineering (CSE)The Executive Director will work with the CSE Associate Dean of Research to ensure that faculty and research administrative staff in CSE are knowledgeable of and adhering to university and CSE specific policies and procedures related to sponsored projects. The Executive Director will represent CSE at Research Directors meetings monthly. The Executive Director will assist with the development and delivery of training opportunities and best practices for Department Administrators and other research professionals across the university with a focus on School of Engineering. The Executive Director will work with Office of Research Administration leadership on policy development and implementation. This involves policy and proposal review, financial control, grants management, endowment management (including professorships), budget cost analysis, forecasting analysis, grant proposal budget preparation and review, and research budget process management.The Executive Director will support university wide research operations with a particular focus on CSE to help them grow and expand research funding by 100% in the next 5 years while maintaining compliance with sponsor regulations. This includes understanding the CSE's broad research portfolio.The Case School of Engineering (CSE) is the second largest research division on campus, with grants and contracts in excess of $45 million representing the most diversified sponsor base within Case Western Reserve University. The individual holding this position is responsible for directing and managing all aspects of the research administration process and the budget preparation and review process in The Case School of Engineering (CSE) . This position provides critical strategic and technical support and input for the Associate Dean of Research. This position also provides critical strategic and technical support and input for the Assistant Dean for Strategic Initiatives in proposal identification efforts.This position reports directly to the Associate Vice President for Research with a dotted line to the Associate Dean for Administration and Finance. The Executive Director will be located in CSE and will utilize knowledge of CSE operations to support areas of strategic financial and budget management and analysis as well as the development of policies specific to CSE for , endowment management (including professorships), budget cost analysis, forecasting analysis, grant proposal budget preparation and review, and research budget process management. The position frequently supports the Dean and Senior Management Team in strategic policy review and development and supporting financial analysis for executive decisions.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSUtilizing extensive knowledge of sponsor requirements and regulations work develop procedures, policies and training materials to ensure compliance with both university and external funding agencies' policies and procedures for proposal submission and award management. Provide expert post-award guidance and training to staff and managers on various topics, including effort reporting, project close outs, and cost sharing. Initiate, establish and direct policies and procedures for effective financial controls and provide on-going training to department chairs in addition to the direct supervision to the research managers in all aspects of their responsibilities from managing their
