Summary You will serve as an equipment specialist assigned to the Experimental Fluids and Environmental Test Branch (ET20) conducting development, experimental, and space flight hardware tests that utilizes unique equipment that is integral to the operations of thermal vacuum and automated and rendezvous test facilities. Responsibilities Operate thermal vacuum and automated rendezvous equipment, such as rouging pumps, cryogenic pumps, and automated robotic docking systems, etc. Analyze, interpret, and evaluate performance data to ensure specialized thermal vacuum and automated rendezvous equipment is operating efficiently. Determine or recommend replacement parts, spare parts, tools, etc for use throughout the specialized equipment’s working life. Solve complex technical problems or issues with thermal vacuum and automated rendezvous equipment. Manage an inventory database to track quantities available, end-of-life, calibration, and other applicable data specifically required for specialized equipment use. Liaise, communicate, and advise users and other operators, of the required precision calibration, maintenance, replacement, and upgrade intervals for the specialized thermal vacuum and automated rendezvous equipment. Lead conceptual design and associated requirements development for new equipment to support test facility and mission requirements. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. To qualify for GS-13, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level. Operating, installing, maintaining, and repairing test facility related equipment for thermal vacuum and automated rendezvous equipment; Providing technical oversight and guidance to design and develop the required integrated specialized equipment systems necessary to meet the test objectives, support mission requirements, and maintain a state of test facility operational readiness; and Developing or generating unique / specific detailed procedures and operating instructions for use while performing tests utilizing precision thermal vacuum and automated rendezvous equipment.
