We're looking to fill this position with a foreward thinking individual who can train under our current equipment manager before he retires within the year. LL Pelling is a full service asphalt contractor serving industrial, commercial, and municipal customers in the Cedar Rapids and Iowa City areas.
Job Title: Equipment Manager

Salary: $85,000-$95,000 annually, based on experience
Summary:
Provide leadership of equipment and shop, overseeing employees who service and repair vehicles and equipment as well as grounds and custodial staff.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly supervise up to 10 employees across two shops. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, promoting, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Manager carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the company’s policies and applicable laws.
Responsibilities
Follow and enforce compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and rules as it pertains to maintaining equipment and shop facilities.
Communicate and consult with executive leaders, field superintendents, and forepersons regarding equipment needs.
Develop and implement business plans to meet company equipment needs.
Prepare an annual budget for executive leadership.
Operate shops within budget and according to established policies and procedures.
Coordinate repairs and maintenance with shop and parts.
Coordinate and direct the movement of heavy trucks, trailers, and equipment to meet operational needs.
Establish and maintain a list of reliable vendors to ensure best pricing and delivery for all shop and equipment related services and materials.
Responsible for acquisition and disposal of fleet motor vehicles, equipment, and trailers.
Track equipment utilization and maintain real time records of equipment and vehicle locations.
Establish, communicate, and enforce policies for inspection, maintenance and repair of equipment and vehicles.
Review and approve all tool and equipment purchases for the shop and field.
Work with the Safety Director to investigate and evaluate cause and extent of damages to equipment involved in accidents or malfunctions.
Enforce a clean and safe working environment.
Conduct weekly on-the-job safety training, i.e. toolbox safety talks
Required Qualifications and Competencies
Regular, dependable attendance to be physically present in the shop each day.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage team members in stressful situations.
Able to communicate within all levels of the organization from mechanics to executive leaders.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Able to organize and prioritize multiple requests and competing priorities.
Must be able to handle medium to high levels of stress to meet deadlines and solve problems.
Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
Above average mechanical skills including troubleshooting and diagnostic.
Experience creating annual budgets and business plans.
Competent in the English language to read, write, speak, and listen.
Must be able to read and interpret documents such as equipment manuals, safety regulations, and contracts.
Able to pass pre-employment drug screen.
Able to pass pre-employment screenings which may include written and/or electronic testing of knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Education and/or Experience
Five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience using equipment diagnostic software such as Caterpillar, Cummins, and Detroit.
Driver’s license with insurable driving record.
Work Schedule
Must be able to work long hours when the shop is operational and drive between shop locations.
