About Corporate Counsel, AWS Legal

  Description

Amazon's Legal Department is looking for a talented attorney who is willing to learn and support Amazon Web Services (AWS), one of the world’s fastest growing technology companies. For more than 14 years, AWS has been the world’s most comprehensive and broadly adopted cloud computing platform. AWS services are trusted by millions of customers around the world - including the fastest-growing startups, largest enterprises, and leading government agencies. To learn more about AWS, visit https://aws.amazon.com.

This role will guide and support teams dedicated to engineering (hardware and software) and security of AWS infrastructure (e.g., the technology that all AWS cloud services and customers rely upon). Candidates should have experience advising business clients directly on ambiguous and/or complex legal matters and negotiating procurement and licensing agreements, ideally with some experience related to technology. Over time you will learn about the business to understand and anticipate the key risks we face, partner with your clients to develop and execute appropriate mitigation strategies, and ultimately help chart long-term strategy for AWS infrastructure. This Corporate Counsel role can be based in Seattle or Santa Monica.

We don’t expect every applicant to have experience working with cloud computing; we hire smart people of all backgrounds and experiences who demonstrate leadership and sound judgment in ambiguous situations. We need lawyers with solid legal training, who are motivated, curious, humble, and who have a good sense of humor.

At AWS Legal, we embrace our differences. We are committed to furthering our culture of inclusion. We have twelve employee-led affinity groups, reaching 40,000 employees in over 190 chapters globally. We have innovative benefit offerings, and we host annual and ongoing engagement experiences, including our Conversations on Race and Ethnicity (CORE) conference and AmazeCon, our conference to discuss gender diversity. Amazon’s culture of inclusion is reinforced within our 14 Leadership Principles.

We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:

Santa Monica, CA, USA | Seattle, WA, USA

  Basic Qualifications

  • 5 years of experience with law firms, corporations, and/or government agencies

  • Juris Doctor (JD) and membership in good standing in at least one state bar is required

  Preferred Qualifications

  • Team player who can effectively work with and manage business clients, other lawyers, and legal professionals cooperatively and efficiently

  • Ability to manage a large number and variety of mission-critical projects

  • Sound and practical business judgment as well as common sense

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

  • Highest standards of ethics and professional integrity
