Summary Per 5 CFR 335.103(c)(3)(v), this is a non-competitive reassignment opportunity open to those qualified who hold (or have held) a position equivalent to (or higher than) an ND-4 (GS-12/13 equivalent) on a permanent basis in the competitive service. You will serve as an Engineer or Scientist in the NUWC Division Newport Employee Rotational Program in the Quality Engineering Track and be assigned to the Deputy Technical Director (Code TDB). Responsibilities In Code 00Q you will provide technical support in the areas of Metrology/calibration specification, selection, calibration and measurement. In Code 00Q you will participate in the Test and Evaluation design of experiments and associated processes. In Code 70 you will provide technical support in the areas of Metrology identification, selection, procurement, and associated calibration. In Code 70 you will provide technical support in the areas of Test and Evaluation, including experimental measurement, data acquisition, analysis and uncertainties. In Code 34 or Code 45 you will participate in the areas of Quality Engineering processes, techniques, architectures, tools, and policies, as well as technical specifics as related to Quality Engineering requirements and solutions. You will participate in cross-departmental tasking in a variety of quality engineering and metrology/calibration specifications and applications and provide technical support across the life cycle for enterprise and tactical systems. You will rotate through three positions within Codes 00Q, 70, 34 and 45 (not necessarily in that order) lasting approximately six months each for a total of 1.5 years. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following: (a) professional registration, (b) evidence of successfully passing the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) examination; (c) successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified above; or (d) successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in engineering technology or in an appropriate professional field, e.g., physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a degree in engineering provided that it included at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. The total coursework described above must have included differential and integral calculus and, in addition, four advanced mathematics courses requiring calculus or equivalent mathematics courses as a prerequisite; OR 1550-Computer Science Series: A bachelor's or higher degree in computer science; or a bachelor's or higher degree with at least 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of these 30 semester hours must have been in a combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus.
