Job SummaryTo support our extraordinary teams who build great products and contribute to our growth, were looking to add an Engineering Technologist located in Salt Lake City, UT.
Reporting to the Process Engineering Manager, the Engineering Technologist assists engineers in the design and development of complex and detailed layouts and drawings, and documentation of complex components, assemblies, and subassemblies. Analyze and modify new and existing engineering technologies and apply them in the testing and implementation of engineering projects.
What a typical day looks like:
Assists engineers in the design and development of engineering layouts, drawings, and documentation of various levels of components, assemblies, and subassemblies using CAD system (i.e., AutoCad, SolidWorks, and Orcad).Collaborates in developing state-of-the-art designs of new or modified components, assemblies, and subassemblies.Assists engineers in establishing design standards and configurations.Works from preliminary schematics, part lists, and basic description of component function, configuration, and arrangement as defined by engineering.Prepares Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and bills of materials, which correspond to engineering drawings.Applies knowledge of design and engineering to recommend improvements to product and process. Maintains and applies working knowledge of all company standards which affect product design and manufacturing processes, including design, drafting and quality inspection.Performs engineering related tests, checkouts, and development engineering tasks.Diagnoses and identifies root-cause of malfunctions down to the component level.Analyzes test results, proposes and implements changes to resolve problems.Conducts operations tests and fault isolation on development systems and equipment to ensure conformance with design specifications, collecting data, analyzing results and implementing procedures.Reviews project instructions and NPI (new product introductions) to ascertain process specifications, procedures, objectives, test equipment, nature of technical problem and possible solutions such as part redesign, substitution of material or parts or rearrangement of parts or subassemblies.Devises, fabricates and assembles new or modified mechanical components or assemblies for products such as industrial equipment and power equipment, server systems, machine tools and measuring instruments.Sets up and conducts tests of complete units and components under operational conditions to investigate design, or to obtain data for development, standardization, quality control and problem resolution.Records manufacturing procedures and results, numerical and graphical data, and recommendations for changes in product or process methods.Maintains documentation and equipment to the latest revision or operational specifications.Assists engineers in developing and designing hardware and software required testing customer products per their specificati ns.Trains technicians and operators on products, processes and equipment.

Typically requires a Bachelors Degree in related field or 2 years of equivalent experience and training.Use of the following tools may be required: Electronic Assembly: color code, component, and schematics. May require various PCB operations. Troubleshooting, component testing, logic analyzer. Inspection: bare board, systems, components, microscope, measuring tools. Mechanical & Electrical Tools: alignment tools, measuring tools.Office skills: telephones, data entry, office software to include, word processing, spreadsheet and presentation package.Basic experience with AutoCad and SolidWorks software.Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively with employees of organization.Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory and factor analysis.Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form, and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
